Mercedes-Benz presented the new-generation A-Class at the Auto Mobil International Motor Show. After an extensive facelift, the compact car has a younger look and is more environmentally friendly than before, announced the German car manufacturer in Leipzig.
Thanks to enhancements, fuel consumption of the direct-injection diesel engines has been reduced by over eight percent or 0.5 litres per 100 kilometres compared with the outgoing models. From autumn 2008, the company will supply a Blue Efficiency package for the three-door A 160 CDI with manual transmission. It consumes 4.5 litres per 100 kilometres on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). CO2 emissions of the 60 kW coupé are 119 gram per kilometre. Fuel savings for the petrol-engined models of up to 0.4 litres per 100 kilometres have been achieved thanks to the newly developed Eco start/stop function. This system will be available for the high-volume 150 and 170 model from autumn 2008 on. It automatically switches the engine off when the driver shifts to neutral at low speed whilst depressing the brake pedal and reduces fuel consumption by around 6.5 percent. The A 150 (70 kW) completes the NEDC cycle with 5.8 litres per 100 kilometres and 139 gram per kilometre of CO2.
