Nissan has releases pricing and details for the 2013 NV200, which will debut at the Chicago Auto Show. later this month. The 2013 NV200 is cheaper and much smaller than the Titan-based NV2500 and NV3500 commercial vans that entered the U.S. market over a year ago. The entry-level NV200 S will be priced from $19,990 while the better equipped NV200 SV will retail for $20,980.

The NV200 is already available in more than 40 countries, and is being brought to the U.S. with small-business owners in mind. The van interior offers a “mobile office” with a folding passenger seat that turns into a worktable. It can haul up to 1,500 pounds.

The combination of a 115.2-inch wheelbase with a 186.3-inch overall length, along with a compact drivetrain and rear suspension, provides an 82.8-inch cargo length, 54.8-inch cargo width (48.0 inches between the wheelwells) and 53.0-inch cargo area height. Along with its low cargo floor height (19.5 inches) and tall roofline, the NV200 a large cargo capacity of 122.7 cubic feet.

Under the NV200's short hood sits a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder producing 131 horsepower and 139 pound-feet of torque, which is good for 24 miles per gallon in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, matching the combined 24-mpg rating of the Transit Connect. The only transmission available is Nissan's Xtronic CVT, and the NV200 comes with 15-inch steel wheels, front disc and rear drum brakes, and rear leaf springs.

Nissan is offering the NV200 in two trim levels—S and SV—and both will be quite affordable, if sparsely equipped. There are several options, including cruise control ($200); back-door privacy glass ($190); Bluetooth connectivity ($250); an Exterior Appearance package ($190), which paints the bumpers, doorhandles, and mirrors body color; and a Technology package ($950), which includes navigation, Nissan’s RearView camera, satellite radio, and a 5.8-inch touch screen.

More than 4.5 feet shorter in length and 2.5 feet lower in height compared to the Nissan NV 2500/3500 High Roof Cargo Van, the new NV200 is designed to be the "right size" for a growing number of small business owners and fleet operators wanting smaller, more efficient work vans. It is also ideal for business owners coming from passenger vehicles, thanks to the NV200's cargo size optimization and functionality.

Maximizing Cargo Efficiency
Built on Nissan's proven compact commercial platform, the NV200 offers high cargo volume capacity in a small exterior package. Unique for North America, the NV200 body has been extended 7.9 inches versus the models sold in other global markets.

This longer body length offers additional cargo carrying capability for North American customers.

Said Castelli: "As the next 'innovation for business," the new NV200 is designed to be highly maneuverable in traffic or when negotiating city parking spaces, with a 36.7-foot curb-to-curb turning diameter. Yet it is every inch a business workhorse with its wide-opening doors and its ability to carry standard U.S. 40x48-inch pallets enhancing its exceptional utility."

The tall rear French doors are a 40/60-split design, with the 60-percent side on the right (curb) side for easy access from a sidewalk. The 40-percent left side door is shorter, reducing its potential intrusion into the street when open, helping lower the risk of accidents due to passing vehicles. Both rear doors feature dual opening positions of 90º and 180º. The standard sliding side doors are designed for low effort. All doors are solid (no windows) to accommodate advertising or business signage, with available privacy door glass.

Added commercial flexibility is provided by the standard integrated mounting points, which allow installation of racks and shelves without drilling into the sidewalls, and six available floor mounted cargo hooks in the cargo area.

The new NV200's exterior design features a Nissan signature front grille, aerodynamic front-end design and functional cabin design. Other exterior features include halogen headlights, durable black front and rear bumpers and outside mirrors with wide-angle spotter mirrors and available heated function. Body-colored bumpers, door handles and outside mirrors are also offered. A selection of five exterior colors is offered: Blue Onyx, Brilliant Silver, Super Black, Red Brick and Fresh Powder.

A Driver-Focused Cockpit
The driver-focused cockpit includes both comfort and functional features. The driver's seat is mounted in a high "commanding" position that is easy to get in and out of and provides a good view of the road and surrounding environment. The 6-way adjustable seat with manual lumbar and armrest is designed for durability with outboard vinyl wear patches. The passenger's seat is a 4-way adjustable design. Height-adjustable front seat head restraints and front door map pockets are also standard.

The Nissan NV200 offers "Mobile Office" functionality with a center console featuring laptop/hanging file folder storage, pen/pencil tray, CD holder and dual cupholders. Recessed storage areas are provided on the upper instrument panel for folders and documents. In addition, the passenger seat folds down to serve as a worktop or lunch table, or it extends the cargo space for hauling longer items such as pipe or lumber. Passenger seat slide travel is nearly 9.5 inches. The durable 15x13-inch tray built into the seatback can fit most laptops and includes a penholder for use as desk.

Power windows with auto up/down are standard, as is the 12-volt power outlet on the instrument panel. An additional 12-volt power point in rear of center console is also available. There is also a passenger-side underseat storage tray, drive computer, battery saver feature, AM/FM/CD with auxiliary input and two front door mounted speakers.

Available technology includes Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System, SiriusXM Satellite Radio (SiriusXM subscription required, sold separately), and RearView Monitor.

The available NissanConnect? with Navigation system includes 5.8-inch touch screen display, Nissan Voice Recognition for audio and navigation, NavTraffic and NavWeather (SiriusXM subscription required, sold separately), POIs powered by Google®, Google® Send-to-Car, Pandora® radio capability (iPhone® only), Streaming audio via Bluetooth® and Hands-free Text Messaging Assistant.

"Business today runs on technology and the NV200 offers a range of available features including RearView Monitor and our advanced NissanConnect? with Navigation system with Hands-free Text Messaging to help keep drivers connected to the office or home," added Castelli.

Standard safety features include the Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (AABS), roof-mounted curtain side impact supplemental air bags for front occupant head protection, front seat mounted driver and passenger side impact supplemental air bags, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Efficiency and Affordability
The 2013 Nissan NV200 is built on Nissan's proven compact commercial platform and features an efficient 2.0-liter 16-valve DOHC 4-cylinder engine rated at 131 horsepower and 139 lb-ft of torque. The engine is matched with a responsive and efficient Xtronic CVT® transmission. Fuel economy is rated at 24 mpg City, 25 mpg Highway and 24 mpg Combined.

The NV200 suspension utilizes independent struts and stabilizer bar in front and a leaf spring design in the rear. Front disc/rear drum brakes with Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist are standard, along with electric power-assisted steering and 15-inch steel wheels mounted with 185/60R15 high-load all-season tires.

Two Well-Equipped Models
The 2013 Nissan NV200 is available in two well-equipped models, NV200 S and NV200 SV in a choice of five exterior colors, matched with a gray cloth interior.

In addition to the long list of standard features on the NV200 S, the SV model adds power heated outside mirrors, power door locks with auto-locking feature, remote keyless entry with two key fobs, cruise control with steering wheel-mounted controls, additional 12V power point in the rear of the center console, six floor-mounted cargo hooks in the cargo area and full wheel covers.

Several option packages are available, including Back Door Glass Package; Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System; Cruise Control Package; and an Exterior Appearance Package with body-color bumpers, door handles and outside mirrors and chrome grille. The Technology Package includes the NissanConnect? with Navigation system, RearView Monitor and SiriusXM Satellite Radio (SiriusXM subscription required, sold separately).

Said Castelli: "Built into the NV200 from the earliest planning, is low total cost of ownership. A Global Award Winner
While new to North America, the Nissan NV200 compact van is in use in more than 40 countries around the world, receiving acclaim from both users and media alike for its optimal functionality and smart design. It won the 2010 International Van of the Year award in Europe, the 2010 Commercial Delivery Van (CDV) of the Year in China, and the 2011 Universal Design Award from Universal Design GMbH, a German organization dedicated to promoting the convergence of design and the emerging importance of customer needs. NV200 has also established a presence as the strong segment leader in Japan with a wide-ranging lineup that includes a taxi version - and will soon be seen on the streets of New York City as the designated taxi design.

Ford has unveiled the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible at the Chicago Auto Show. Ford is also using Chicago to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its Special Vehicles Team.

In 1992, Ford officially launched the SVT brand at the Chicago Auto Show with the 1993 SVT Mustang Cobra and SVT F-150 Lightning. The brand has now returned to the 2012 Chicago Auto Show with the new 2013 Shelby GT500 Convertible. The drop-top version of the Shelby GT500 will be built at AutoAlliance International Plant in Flat Rock, Mich. and will go on sale later this year.

The 2013 Shelby GT500 convertible features the same 650 horsepower 5.8-liter supercharged V8 as the coupe but one thing will be limited, the 200 plus MPH top speed. Ford decided to stay safe and limit the drop tops speed to 155 MPH.

The 2013 Shelby comes with an optional performance package and is faster around a track than its outgoing model. The new car shaved nearly 31/2 seconds off its lap time at Sebring International Raceway compared to the 2011 and 2012 models, Ford says.

In addition to the carbon fiber driveshaft, upgraded clutch, transmission, camshafts and cross-drilled block and heads, SVT fitted its own specially developed Bilstein electronic adjustable dampers, along with six-piston Brembo calipers squeezing massive discs up front.

Like the Coupe, a Performance Package and a Track Package will also be available for the Convertible. The Performance Package includes Bilstein electronically-adjusted dampers while the Track Package features an external engine-oil cooler, rear differential cooler and transmission cooler to prevent over-heating on the track.

New Ford Shelby GT500 convertible makes its debut at the Chicago Auto Show, serving as the celebratory vehicle of the 20th anniversary of Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT)

The newest Shelby GT500 convertible with the optional Performance Package is nearly 3.5 seconds faster than the outgoing model at Sebring International Raceway. The 5.8-liter supercharged V8 with 650 horsepower, Bilstein electronic adjustable dampers and new Brembo brake system are key enablers for the improved performance

SVT has produced more than 210,000 cars and trucks during its 20-year history, with more than seven different nameplates that include the Ford GT, Mustang Cobra R, SVT F-150 Lightning, F-150 SVT Raptor, Shelby GT500KR and the soon-to-be-launched Focus ST

CHICAGO, Feb. 8, 2012 – The official launch of SVT came during the 1992 Chicago Auto Show with the unveiling of the 1993 SVT Mustang Cobra and SVT F-150 Lightning. Now Ford returns to Chicago to celebrate its past and look to the future with the 2013 Shelby GT500 convertible.

In honor of SVT’s anniversary, a commemorative lighted sill plate will be used in the 2013 Shelby GT500 to celebrate the many years of performance vehicles. The 1993 SVT Mustang Cobra offered a 235-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 engine, which demonstrates just how far the products have come in 20 years. The 2013 Shelby GT500 with its 650-horsepower V8 marks the latest offering from one of the oldest and most successful automotive performance groups in the world.

“The Shelby GT500 convertible is every bit the performer that the coupe is,” said Kerry Baldori, SVT Global Performance Vehicles chief engineer. “All of the significant changes we made in the program were instrumental in delivering a convertible that could really shine on the track but can still be driven on a daily basis.”

The 2013 Shelby GT500 convertible with the optional Performance Package is faster around a track than the outgoing model. The new convertible shaved nearly 3.5 seconds off its lap time at Sebring International Raceway compared to the 2011 and 2012 models.

Keys to the improved lap times are the power boost from the new 5.8-liter supercharged V8 producing 650 horsepower, as well as the SVT-designed Bilstein electronic adjustable dampers available on the Performance Package and the all-new chassis tuning.

Accessed on the dash with a simple push of a button, normal mode gives customers a more comfortable ride over road irregularities. Sport mode is all about performance, delivering improved response time on the track and less body roll while cornering with reduced pitch under braking. The upgraded dampers allowed SVT engineers to tune the convertible more aggressively for the track, while still being able to maintain desirable on-road manners.

A new Brembo brake system also is a key enabler in boosting the performance of the convertible. The new brakes offer drivers enhanced stopping power to help keep their car under control, while new six-piston calipers in front along with larger front and rear rotors further improve braking performance. More aggressive brake pads also help the car achieve high deceleration and further robustness for more driver confidence.

Similar to the coupe, the convertible will be offered with a Performance Package that also can be upgraded to a Track Package, complete with an external engine oil cooler, rear differential cooler and transmission cooler for further durability.

20 years of high-performance innovation

Each of the more than 210,000 SVT vehicles produced since 1993 has been designed and developed with the four SVT attributes in mind: Performance, Substance, Exclusivity and Value. These hallmarks still guide the brand’s vehicle development today.

“In the past 20 years, SVT has engineered world-class mid-engine supercars, front-wheel-drive performance cars, rear-wheel-drive muscle cars and high-performance on-road and off-road pickup trucks,” said Jamal Hameedi, SVT chief engineer. “There is no other performance house in the world that can match that diverse résumé.”

Since 1993 more than seven different SVT vehicles have been produced, including several versions of the Cobra and Shelby GT500, the F-150 Lightning performance pickup and F-150 SVT Raptor, the SVT Contour sports sedan, plus both three- and five-door versions of the SVT Focus. Special SVT Mustang Cobra R models were made in 1993, 1995 and 2000.

SVT has joined with Team RS in Europe to form the Performance Vehicles Group to devise a strategy for all future global performance Ford cars. The resulting Focus ST is Ford’s first truly global performance car, giving drivers around the world the opportunity to share the exhilarating performance, excellent handling, addictive sound and sporty design Ford’s ST badge represents. The Ford Fiesta ST Concept also signals the next step in Ford’s global performance vehicle strategy and hints at how a future Fiesta ST model might look when it joins the Focus ST in the global small car portfolio.

2013 Ford Shelby GT500

The ultimate Ford Mustang – Shelby GT500 – raises the bar high on performance by delivering 650 horsepower and a track-tested top speed of more than 200 mph. The 5.8-liter supercharged V8 aluminum-block engine produces 650 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque, making it the most powerful production V8 in the world.

Nearly every part of the powertrain has been optimized for producing the additional horsepower, including a new supercharger, new cross-drilled block and heads, updated camshaft profiles, a new carbon fiber driveshaft and upgraded clutch, transmission and axle.

And nearly every gear on the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 has been revised to manage the torque and use more of the power in a way that makes it more driver-friendly.

RMR Hyundai Veloster Rally Car【Video】

The Rhys Millen Racing has unveiled the the RMR Hyundai Veloster rally car at the Chicago Auto Show today.

The RMR Hyundai Veloster rally car is built on the same chassis as the production vehicle, features carbon fiber and Kevlar body panels, which are 75 percent lighter than the sheet metal they replaced. In total, the RMR Hyundai Veloster rally car weighs only 2,656 pounds.

Power comes from Hyundai’s 2.0 litre four-cylinder with an HKS turbocharger producing an impressive 500 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheel through an X-Trac six-speed sequential gearbox.

Inside, the interior is completely stripped out to make way for a comprehensive eight-point roll cage system and race car cockpit comprising Sparco racing seats, carbon fibre dash and an LCD instrument panel.

Sporting a 500-horsepower, all-wheel drive powertrain, the first of the Veloster rally cars is built by and for Rhys Millen to use in the 2011 U.S. Rallycross Championship.

Drivers Rhys Millen and Robbie Maddison Race New Veloster Rally Cars at X Games During the 2011 U.S. Rallycross Championship Series

CHICAGO, Feb. 9, 2011 – With the next generation of Hyundai buyers eagerly awaiting the upcoming launch of the 2012 Veloster, Hyundai fuels the excitement by teaming with Rhys Millen Racing (RMR) and Red Bull to campaign the car in the high-energy sport of rallycross.

At the Chicago Auto Show, Hyundai Motor America adds the Veloster coupe to its motorsports program with the help of champion race car driver Rhys Millen, who fabricated and will race the first 500-horsepower AWD Veloster rally car in the 2011 U.S. Rallycross Championship. RMR and Hyundai are constructing a second Veloster rally car that will be a shared ride between rally champion Marcus Dodd and world record freestyle motorbike rider Robbie Maddison. Millen and Maddison will drive the Veloster rally cars at Summer X Games. A third Veloster rally car will be constructed to compete in the 2WD class in limited number of U.S. Rallycross Championship events and will be piloted by to-be-announced celebrity drivers.

"The Veloster Concept inspired me to expand Hyundai's motorsports program back into their routes of rally," said Millen, professional race driver and founder of RMR. "We've transformed the Veloster's lightweight, rigid architecture into a rally car with an engine producing 500-horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque. We hope some of the performance learning's from the Veloster rallycross program have a role in the development of future Veloster models."

THE CHASSIS BUILD

Twelve RMR employees applied everything they know about fabricating racecars into the Veloster rally Car. The production Veloster was stripped to bare metal and the chassis spent five days in an Alkali bath removing all rubber and adhesives. The chassis was also stitch welded for added structural rigidity.

CARBON/KEVLAR BODY PANELS

Millen quickly decided to take the already light weight Veloster and make it even lighter. His crew took molds of the Veloster body panels to replicate them out of carbon/Kevlar. The hood, doors, quarter panels, front fascia and rear fascia are all built out of carbon/Kevlar. The carbon/Kevlar panels are 75 percent lighter than the sheet metal they replaced. This weight-saving approach is carried throughout the car without compromising its powerful curves and surface detail or hidden third door.

Downforce has been further increased by a custom RMR rear wing. The hood is vented to dissipate heat. The curb weight for the car is 2,656 pounds.

INTERIOR

The interior of the RMR Red Bull Hyundai Veloster rally car is unrecognizable from its origins as a well-appointed sporty coupe designed with everyday driving in mind. All comfort and convenience features are removed to make way for a custom-fabricated eight-point safety cage and firewall which reinforce the Veloster's already stiff chassis. Braces on the A and B pillars also tie into the strength of the body. The safety cage is required for rallying and a Sparco racing seat further protects the driver in the overhauled cockpit.

SUSPENSION

The RMR Red Bull Hyundai Veloster rally car utilizes a custom suspension with a lot of travel for the jumps rallycross cars have to make.

ENGINE AND TURBO KIT

The Hyundai 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is further enhanced by a HKS ball bearing turbocharger. The engine is mated to an X-Trac six-speed sequential transmission. The end result is a Veloster that produces 500-horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque.

WHEELS, TIRES AND BRAKES

To ensure that the enhanced power plant translates all the way to track performance, RMR added custom built 18-inch HRE wheels and 245/40-18 Hankook Racing tires. Stopping power comes from 14-inch Alcon brake rotors and six piston Alcon calipers. The entire carbon/Kevlar body is wrapped in a paint scheme combination of blue, white and orange.

RALLYCROSS

A race consists of five rally-style cars jumping and sliding on a road course made of pavement and gravel. Five drivers line up to start at once, piloting 500+ horsepower four wheel drive compact cars through race traffic over a challenging short course that features jumps, unbanked turns, dirt and pavement. Each car must also take a "Joker" lap at some point during their heat. A Joker lap is a small detour – normally over a jump – that adds a level of unpredictability to the heat's outcome, by changing a driver's strategy in an instant.

RHYS VERSUS HIS RIVALS

Rhys Millen will be taking on David Higgins and Dave Mirra in their Subaru WRX STIs, Ken Block and Tanner Foust in their Ford Fiesta's and Antoine L'Estage in his Mitsubishi EVO X to name a few.

World Champion driver Rhys "Mad Skills" Millen pilots the RMR Red Bull Hyundai Genesis Coupe in the Formula DRIFT Championship and the RMR Red Bull Hyundai Veloster rally car in the U.S. Rallycross Championship Series, including Summer X Games. Millen and his team are an ideal match to help launch Hyundai's motorsports effort. Millen's driving credentials include movie stunts, multiple drifting championships, a Pikes Peak world record and his 2008 New Year's Eve Las Vegas truck flip at Red Bull: New Year. No Limits. Behind Millen's success in the driver's seat is a full team of engineers and fabricators that know how to maximize the potential of a race car. Rhys and his team will once again attempt to set a new world record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) driving the Hyundai PM580 powered by a turbocharged Lambda V-6 engine.

With more than 17 years of racing experience, Rhys Millen has established himself as one of the premier rally/drifting drivers in North America. Rhys is the son of famed rally and off-road racer Rod Millen. Rhys won the Formula Drift championship in 2005 and the Red Bull Drifting World Championship in 2008. In 2009 at the PPIHC, Millen won the Time Attack 2WD class in his carbon-bodied Hyundai Genesis Coupe. His time of 12:09.397 crushed the class record.

ROBBIE MADDISON

Robbie "Maddo" Maddison is an Australian freestyle motocross rider. On New Year's Eve in 2007, he set the record (322 feet) for the longest motorcycle jump at Red Bull: New Year. No Limits. in Las Vegas. He followed it up later that year with strong finishes on the AST Dew Tour and Red Bull X-Fighters series. On New Year's Eve 2008, Maddison successfully jumped 96 feet onto the top of the Arc de Triomphe at Paris Las Vegas and then descended more than 80 feet off the monument to a ramp below. In 2010, Maddison become the first person to jump the start gantry at the Formula One race in Melbourne, Australia. The following month he performed an amazing jump over the Corinth Canal in Greece, becoming the first person to cross the canal on a motorcycle. Last summer, Maddison won a silver medal at X Games 16 in MotoX Best Trick.

MARCUS DODD

Marcus Dodd is a five-time British National Rally Champion with an extensive Motocross and rallying background. Over his 24-year career, Dodd has won more than 50 National Championship Rallies. He participated in his first rally at the age of 17 and joined the Ford racing team in 1998. Dodd won his first British National Rally Championship in 2000 and went on to win four more Championships in his HPM Hyundai, a feat which put him in the record books as the most successful driver in the history of British National Rally champions. Dodd has won five Championship Titles over a period of nine years. Dodd also has considerable experience preparing and developing rally cars which has contributed to his reputation as a fast competitor and an exceptional development driver.

Making its debut today at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show is the facelifted 2012 Hyundai Genesis sedan,The latest model is set to go on sale in late March and will be priced between $45,000 and $50,000. The base 3.8-liter V-6 engine with 305 horsepower on tap should remain in the lineup.

Boasting a number of minor changes, the facelifted model is distinguished by modified bumpers, a revised grille, aggressive side skirts, and brushed aluminum window trim. Elsewhere, there are new headlights, LED daytime running lights, and restyled taillights.

The heart of the new Genesis 5.0 R-Spec model is a 5.0-liter ‘Tau’ V-8 engine with direct injection technology producing 429 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 376 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm. Even with its extra displacement and performance, the 5.0-liter mill nearly matches the current 4.6 V-8 in fuel economy, returning an estimated 16 mpg city and 25 mpg highway versus the 4.6’s 17 mpg city and 26 mpg highway.

NEW 5.0 R-SPEC: MOST POWERFUL HYUNDAI V8 ENGINE EVER
The heart of the Genesis 5.0 R-Spec model is a new Tau V8 engine producing 429 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 376 lb. ft. of torque at 5,000 rpm. This new Tau V8 represents the most powerful Hyundai engine ever, with a higher specific output (85.8 hp/liter) than its normally-aspirated premium luxury competitors. For 2011, the Tau V8 engine family has again been named to the prestigious Ward's Ten Best Engines for the third consecutive time.

The 5.0-liter cylinder bore was increased from 92 mm to 96 mm over the 4.6-liter bore for a total displacement of 5.0 liters (5,038cc). In addition to the enlarged displacement, direct injection technology has been added. This high-pressure direct injection system (over 2200 psi), dramatically increases power and torque while reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Compression ratio has been increased from 10.4 to 11.5:1 for greater thermal efficiency and output. The Tau also receives a revised bed plate for improved block rigidity and lower NVH as well as camshaft carriers and a roller timing chain to improve valvetrain stability.

Even more, this new V8 still offers all of the premium engine technology from the 4.6-liter V8, including Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT), a tuned variable induction system, and low-friction diamond-like coatings (DLC) on piston skirts, rings and tappets. Even with these impressive power increases, fuel economy is estimated at 16 mpg city and 25 mpg highway, nearly matching the 4.6-liter V8 (17 mpg city/26 mpg highway). As an additional point of interest, this same 5.0-liter Tau V8 with eight-speed transmission will replace the current 4.6-liter V8 as the standard powertrain in the 2012 Hyundai Equus premium luxury sedan, on sale this summer.

The Tau 5.0-liter V8 is coupled with a new in-house eight-speed transmission. This new Hyundai-developed transmission adds two additional ratios to enhance acceleration, shifting smoothness, and transmission efficiency by six percent over the former six-speed. All eight-speed transmissions will include SHIFTRONIC® manual shift capability. This new eight-speed transmission is the first offered by a non-luxury branded manufacturer.

In keeping with Hyundai engineering philosophy, the R-Spec also will include more aggressive chassis tuning, matching its corresponding powertrain enhancements for optimal dynamic balance. For enhanced body roll control, front stabilizer bar diameter has been increased from 25 mm to 26 mm, and rear diameter from 18 mm to 19 mm over the 4.6 model. R-Spec will offer a unique sport design 19-inch alloy wheel with premium machined finish and optional Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 summer performance tires. The R-Spec steering calibration has been matched to this unique wheel and tire combination for optimized performance and driving refinement expectations in this segment. To complete the performance package, front brake rotors have increased from 13.0 inches to 13.6 inches over the 2011 4.6 model.

In addition to the more aggressive styling cues for all 2012 Genesis models, R-Spec will offer unique headlights with dark chrome inserts for a more distinctive front appearance. An R-Spec trim designation badge has been added to the rear deck, and black R-Spec embroidered floor mats daily remind the driver of the performance that awaits behind the wheel. Genesis R-Spec only will be offered in three sport-oriented exterior colors: Black Noir, Titanium Gray, and Platinum Metallic, each with Black leather interior and an all-black leather steering wheel for a differentiated sport appearance from the 4.6 model.

DIRECT INJECTION LAMBDA 3.8-LITER ENGINE
In keeping with its 5.0-liter V8 sibling, the Genesis 3.8-liter Lambda engine will receive direct injection (GDI) technology, boosting its output 15 percent from 290 to 333 horsepower, an impressive gain of 43 horsepower with no increase in displacement. In addition, peak torque rises from 264 lb.-ft. to 291 lb.-ft., a generous increase of 27 lb.-ft. from the same 3.8 liters. Compression ratio increases from 10.4:1 to 11.5:1 for greater thermal efficiency. This new direct-injected Lambda V6 produces a higher specific output (87.6 hp/liter) than its normally-aspirated premium luxury competitors.

The 3.8-liter engine retains all of the premium technologies that have made it outstanding since the launch of Genesis: Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT), variable induction, all aluminum block and heads, steel timing chain, and iridium-tipped spark plugs. Besides the generous horsepower and torque gains, direct injection technology produces a significant reduction in emissions through a 40 percent reduction in catalyst light-off time. Further, a variable vane oil pump has been fitted to precisely match oil pressure with engine lubrication requirements for increased efficiency at all engine speeds. As a result, 3.8-liter GDI fuel economy increases over seven percent from 27 mpg to 29 mpg on the highway.

All 3.8-liter engines will be coupled to an in-house-developed eight-speed transmission with SHIFTRONIC and precisely calibrated gear ratios for an overall transmission efficiency gain of six percent. These two additional ratios serve to achieve competing objectives of acceleration and economy without compromise.

AWARD-WINNING TAU 4.6-LITER V8 ENGINE WITH EIGHT-SPEED AUTOMATIC

For 2012, Genesis' award-winning Tau 4.6-liter V8 powerplant will now be coupled exclusively with an in-house-developed eight-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC, adding benefits in acceleration and efficiency. Internal engineering tests estimate this new eight-speed transmission to be six percent more efficient at transferring power than the former 6-speed automatic, increasing highway fuel economy from 25 mpg to 26 mpg.

This same 4.6-liter Tau V8 engine was already significantly improved for 2010 with induction and tuning enhancements increasing peak output from 375 to 385 horsepower. A variable intake system, iridium-tipped spark plugs, anti-knock control, and multi-port injection further add to the sophistication of this engine.

CHASSIS REFINEMENT FOR 3.8 AND 4.6 MODELS
Always seeking to enhance the Genesis driving experience, Hyundai engineers have made further refinements to the 3.8 and 4.6 model suspension damping calibrations. These precise adjustments serve to minimize the traditional compromises between handling precision and ride comfort. In addition, body roll control for the 3.8 model is enhanced, with the rear stabilizer bar diameter increasing from 17 mm to 18 mm. Braking is also improved on both the 3.8 and 4.6 models; the 3.8 model front rotor size increases from 12.6 inches to 13.0 inches, while adding by higher performance 4-piston brake calipers, and the 4.6 model front brake rotors increase from 13.0 inches to 13.6 inches for greater fade resistance.

EXTERIOR DESIGN
Not content to rest on their laurels, Hyundai's design team has sought to make a great Genesis exterior design even better for 2012. For the front view, the front grille has been enhanced, a more aggressive front fascia with larger intake openings was developed, and the headlights have been redesigned, adding LED accents and daytime running lights (DRLs). From the side view, the standard 17-inch alloy wheel design has been freshened and the rocker panels have been refined. In addition, the mirrors now incorporate power-folding and puddle lamp functions, while the side window surround now receives a decidedly sporty brushed aluminum finish. From the rear view, the taillights have been redesigned and new dual asymmetrical exhaust tips are more cleanly integrated with a new bumper fascia.

NEW SAFETY TECHNOLOGIES
Maintaining Hyundai's emphasis on delivering leading safety technology, Genesis boasts world-class active and passive safety features to help both prevent accidents and maximize the well being of its occupants in the event of a collision. Genesis continues the Hyundai tradition of standardizing key life-saving safety technology with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), eight airbags and electronic active head restraints. Active front head restraints have been proven by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety to help prevent whiplash.

Adding to this safety leadership for 2012, Genesis adds new daytime running lamps to all models. Further, Genesis offers a newly-developed Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), available on the 3.8 Technology package, 4.6 and 5.0 R-Spec models.

Genesis' total of eight airbags includes advanced dual front airbags, front and rear seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and roof-mounted side curtain airbags for both front and rear outboard seat occupants.
Genesis has a total of eight ultrasonic sensors located on the front and rear bumpers. The sensors, along with the rear backup camera, help detect how close objects are when parking. Distance is indicated on the in-dash screen and accompanied by an audible warning tone.

Genesis is brought to a halt by large four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with Brake Assist and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD). Genesis 3.8 models now have large 13.0-inch front rotors with four-piston fixed calipers, while 4.6 and 5.0 models have oversized 13.6-inch front rotors.

NEW TECHNOLOGY AND FEATURES

2012 Genesis also will increase its impressive list of standard equipment, adding headlight LED accents and daytime running lights (DRLs) and outside mirror puddle lamps.

Genesis 3.8 Premium Package
The 3.8 Premium Package will now offer newly-developed power-folding outside mirrors and heated rear seats with console controls. For 2012, the 3.8 Premium package will also include rearview camera, DVD navigation system with seven-inch touchscreen, XM NavTraffic, and 18-inch Hyper Silver split-spoke alloy wheels.

Genesis 3.8 Technology Package:
The 3.8 Technology package will continue to satisfy tech-savvy buyers, adding a newly-developed Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), and thin-film-transistor LCD gauge cluster readout.
