Suzuki Unveils Solio Compact Wagon

发表者 ddgg 12/24/10

Suzuki and Mitsubishi have inked an agreement today on Christmas eve for the OEM supply of Suzuki’s SOLIO compact MPV for Mitsubishi to rebadge for the Japanese domestic market. Suzuki will supply Mitsubishi about 800 units of the Suzuki SOLIO a month.

Mitsubishi, the seventh largest carmaker in Japan, aims to increase sales by expanding its lineup while Suzuki hopes to cut the production costs per vehicle through increased production. It is the first time the two car-makers have struck a car production deal for the domestic market.

Compact vehicles have gained popularity in Japan because of their fuel efficiency and small size allowing easy driving through narrow Japanese roads.

Suzuki hopes to sell 12,000 units a year, targeting current minicar and minivan owners. Prices start at 1.38 million yen.

LA Auto Show: Mitsubishi i MiEV

发表者 ddgg 11/8/10

Mitsubishi will unveil the North American version of its i-MiEV electric car that the company will begin selling in the United States next year. The car will be shown at the Los Angeles auto show on Nov. 17.

The North American version of the i-MiEV features an enhanced, enlarged body structure with plenty of space for four adults and meets the expectations of U.S. consumers. The new car also features all-new front and rear bumpers. Airbags that detect passengers and control deployment force, Tire Pressure Monitoring System and Active Stability Control also add to the safety of the passengers.

The car itself is 285mm (11.2-in.) longer at 3,680mm, it’s wider by 110mm (4.3-in.) at 1,585mm and also higher by 5mm for a total of 1,615mm. The front and rear track are also a total of 110mm (4.3-in.) wider. To a give a sense of perspective that’s roughly three feet longer than a Smart fortwo and about a foot shorter than the Honda Fit.

The i-MiEV features a 63-horsepower electric motor and a 330-volt lithium-ion battery system. The car has a mid-engine design, with the power driving the rear wheels. Overall, electric range should come in at 80 to 100 miles per charge. For additional information on the i-MiEV’s content and how it drives, check out our reviews and video below.

In addition, the North American-spec i-MiEV’s front and rear bumpers are all-new. Airbags that detect passengers and control deployment force, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and Active Stability Control (ASC) are all standard

Press Release

Mitsubishi Motors' North American Version of i-MiEV to Make World Premiere at the LA AUTO SHOW

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) will host the world premiere of the North American version of its i-MiEV new-generation electric vehicle at the Los Angeles Auto Show (LAAS) held at the Los Angeles Convention Center from Wednesday, November 17 to Sunday November 28 (open to the general public from Friday, November 19). In addition, the Outlander Sport compact CUV (RVR in Japan, ASX in Europe), which is to go on sale in the North American market from the end of this year as well as other core vehicles for the North American market are planned for display at the LAAS.

The North American version of the i-MiEV, in comparison to the Japanese- and European-spec i-MiEVs, features an enhanced, enlarged body structure to secure plenty of space for four adults and better meet the expectations of U.S. consumers. In addition, the North American-spec i-MiEV's front and rear bumpers are all-new. Airbags that detect passengers and control deployment force, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and Active Stability Control (ASC) are all standard equipment.

Also, with the Outlander Sport's mating of a 2.0-liter MIVEC*1 engine to an INVECS*2III-CVT Sportronic (six-speed sport-mode CVT) transmission (five-speed manual transmission also available on some trim levels), the Outlander Sport provides superior fuel efficiency and low emissions in a compact CUV package that can seat five.

  • North American Version i-MiEV Main Specifications (numbers in [ ] denote difference with Japanese model)
    Length : 3,680mm [+285mm]
    Width : 1,585mm [+110mm]
    Height : 1,615mm [+5mm]
    Tread (front/rear) : 1,420mm/1,380mm [+110mm/+110mm]

Mitsubishi's compact Outlander Sport will go the same route as its larger Outlander brethren and head to Europe as rebadged Citroens and Peugeots in early 2012.

PSA Peugeot-Citroen wants to build two compact SUVs based on Mitsubishi’s new ASX compact sport-utility vehicle. The project will represent the fourth industrial collaboration between the two automakers, adding to their existing deals on mid-sized SUVs, electric cars and a joint car factory in Russia.

Power will be provided by a 1.6-liter HDi diesel engine with 110 bhp (82 kW / 112 PS) and 177 lb-ft (240 Nm) of torque. Mated to front-wheel drive, the engine will consume less than 4.7 liters per 100 km (50 mpg US / 60.1 mpg UK) while emitting 123 grams of CO2 per km.

In addition to the Outlander and Outlander Sport, Mitsubishi's i-MiEV city car is being rebadged as the Citroen C-Zero and Peugeot iOn for the European market, starting later this year.

Press Release

Mitsubishi Motors and PSA Peugeot Citroen Begin a New Collaboration on a Compact SUV

Tokyo / Paris, April 27, 2010-Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) and PSA Peugeot Citroën have announced today that the parties have come to an agreement to start a new collaborative project regarding a compact SUV.

This agreement provides for the development and adaptation for both the Peugeot and Citroën marques of a compact SUV, based on an existing Mitsubishi platform.

Launched early 2012 in Europe, these new compact SUVs will have specific designs for Peugeot and Citroën while sharing many components with the Mitsubishi vehicle, named RVR in Japan and ASX in Europe.

These vehicles will be available in both four- and two-wheel drive. The projected volume for Peugeot and Citroën will reach 50,000 units per year for both brands.

Under the agreement, PSA Peugeot Citroën will use its 1.6 HDi diesel engine for its own models. CO2 emissions with this engine will be particularly low for this type of vehicle, targeting, for the two-wheel drive version, 123g CO2 / km or less than 4.7 litres per 100km.

For PSA Peugeot Citroën, the new vehicles will expand the ranges of both Peugeot and Citroën and attract new customers in a market segment that is expected to grow worldwide by almost 60% by 2015.

For Mitsubishi Motors, the additional volume will enable it to bolster production of this platform, allowing it to enjoy benefits of economies of scale.

This is the 4th cooperative project between the two partners, after the SUV Mitsubishi Outlander, Peugeot 4007 and Citroën C-Crosser agreement in 2005, the construction of a joint plant in Russia that has just been inaugurated, and the European launch in late 2010 of the Peugeot iOn and Citroën C-zero electric vehicles, based on MMC's Japanese i-MiEV* model.

Normally when an automaker updates a model, even if it's just a quick cosmetic change, the earlier version is treated like cheek meat – nobody wants it unless it's a real good deal, and the dealers just want them gone. Mitsubishi evidently thinks its home-market will be kinder to the compact crossover-ute-thing we know and love as the Outlander.

While a new Evo-esque beak has been grafted onto our Outlander for 2010, the softer, older version will continue to be offered to JDM buyers alongside a more cosmetically aggressive model. To avoid confusion, a country-specific rhinoplasty-enhanced model will be branded Outlander Roadest (note that the fascia and, grille and foglamps are all distinct from the U.S. model), while the older bodywork model will continue on as just plain "Outlander." Regardless of the looks, both iterations will get a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine as standard, good for 148PS (about 146 horsepower).

The offal-likeness is in play with pricing as well, with the new-old Outlander selling for just ¥1,995,000 (about $22,000) while the Roadest will command ¥2,475,900 ($27,100).

As a rule, when an automaker goes ahead and facelifts one of its vehicles, the previous version is expelled from the range. Apparently that's not the case with Mitsubishi and its Japanese domestic market Outlander. The company has just released two new variants of the compact crossover, one called Roadest that's based on the new model with the EVO snout featuring a sporty body kit, and the other on the pre-facelift model.

Both variants are fitted with a new entry-level 2.0-liter gasoline engine producing 148PS at 6,000 rpm and 20.1kgm of peak torque at 4,200 rpm.

The base Outlander 20E (pre-facelift body) is available with 2WD or AWD and is priced from 1,995,000 Yen, which comes to around US$21,800 or €15,100.

The Outlander Roadest 2.0 with the sporty aero parts, also offered with 2WD or AWD, starts from 2,475,900 Yen, or about US$27,100 / €18,800 at today's exchange rates.

Mitsubishi already plans on selling its little MiEV electric car in the U.S. within the next 18 months, and it appears that we may get a gasoline powered version of the roomy micro car as well. Automotive News is reporting that Mitsubishi is mulling the idea of putting petrol power in charge of propulsion of some i models, giving dealers a higher volume line that can compete with the Smart Fortwo.

The automaker already sells a gasoline powered i in Europe, but Mitsubishi Motors North America VP John Koenig reportedly told AN that the Euro model's turbocharged 660cc motor would likely be swapped out for the same Mitsubishi-sourced 1.0-liter three-cylinder model that powers the Smart.

If Koenig wants to bring the gas-powered i to the States, he estimates that he'll have to prove that dealers can sell 1,000 models per month in order to get the parent company to pull the trigger. That sounds doable to us considering Smart sold 20,000 Fortwo's in the first 10 months of production – in spite of the fact that the unique-looking micro mini is premium-priced and only has two seats.

The i can comfortably seat four and it can probably be sold for close to the Fortwo's $11,990 starting price. The typical i sells in more small car tolerant Europe for $16,000.

The new pictures seem to show that the side panels of the prototype are much less indented and styled than the concept. The rear glass has also changed to a standard oval shape. Side mirrors are also more rounded than the rectangular mirrors on the concept. Although heavily padded, the grille at the front still appears to be split.

Mitsubishi's new crossover will come standard with all-wheel drive, and possibly the twin-clutch Sport Shift Transmission (SST) featured on the Evo X. Thus far, only diesel engines have been confirmed for the crossover. This includes a new, 134 horsepower 1.8-liter engine producing up to 207 ft-lb of torque.

The 4.1-meter long concept was first shown off at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2007. Back in July 2008, the Japanese automaker confirmed that the small SUV would hit production. Once assembled, it will fit into the company's lineup under the company's compact, 4.6-meter long Outlander SUV.

A prototype based on the Mitsubishi cX Concept has been seen testing in Europe for the first time. The cX Crossover appears to be a bit longer, and typically blander, than the design study.

A name for the model has yet to be announced.

Press Release:

Mitsubishi Motors Announces Pricing for Versatile Five-Door Lancer Sportback; Newest Model Begins Arriving in Dealerships Aug. 17

Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) today announced pricing for its newest addition to the multiple award-winning Lancer lineup - the versatile five-door 2010 Lancer Sportback GTS and Ralliart. The Lancer Sportback carries with it similar distinctive and aggressive styling as the rally-inspired Lancer Evolution, yet with greater flexibility to accommodate active lifestyles.

The economical Lancer Sportback GTS features Mitsubishi’s efficient 2.4-liter engine with 168 horsepower and 167 pound-feet of torque. MSRP for the GTS with a five-speed manual transmission is $19,190, while the six-speed CVT automatic transmission with magnesium paddle shifters starts at an MSRP of $20,190.

The Lancer Sportback Ralliart is powered by Mitsubishi’s 2.0-liter MIVEC turbocharged engine that pumps out 237 horsepower and 253 lb.-ft. of torque. All-Wheel Control (AWC) with Active Center Differential (ACD) is standard, as is the quick-shifting six-speed Twin Clutch-Sportronic® Shift Transmission (TC-SST) and magnesium paddle shifters that it shares with the high performance Lancer Evolution. The Lancer Sportback Ralliart starts at an MSRP of $27,590.

“Today’s new car buyers are moving toward smaller, fuel efficient cars, and yet, there is still a need for cargo capacity. The Lancer Sportback’s carrying capacity, coupled with a more aggressive design than contemporary hatchbacks, perfectly fills the void,” explains Bryan Arnett, manager of product strategy of MMNA.

Mitsubishi designers created a dynamic and fluid shape for the Sportback that is instantly recognizable as a Lancer from the front, with its signature “jet fighter” grille, while being completely fresh from the C-pillar rearward. The sleek sloping rear door with integrated roof wing creates a visually distinctive shape while making the Lancer significantly more versatile. The door extends down to the rear bumper to make loading cumbersome objects like surfboards, camping gear and bicycles as easy as possible.

The Lancer Sportback’s overall length is just slightly longer than the Lancer four-door sedan, yet it gains substantial cargo-carrying flexibility–especially when the 60:40-split rear seats are folded flat by its one-touch auto-folding feature. To add still more volume, the rear cargo floor of the GTS can be cleverly lowered three inches, yielding 52.7 cubic ft. maximum cargo space. The roof will also conveniently accommodate a plug-in Thule® Sport Rack for additional flexibility.

Premium interior features like those found on the Lancer sedans are also part of the Sportback’s resume. Key components in the Ralliart version include a standard 140-watt CD/MP3 audio system with six speakers or an available 710-watt Rockford-Fosgate Premium Sound System, in-dash CD changer with MP3 capability, plus Sirius Satellite Radio. A hard disc-drive navigation system with Mitsubishi’s exclusive Diamond Lane Guidance to provide route guidance is optional, as are Recaro sport seats that provide optimal support for the driver and front passenger.

Safety Features
Standard safety features in all Lancer models include an advanced dual front air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) with occupant sensors, front seat-mounted side-impact air bags and side curtain air bags, plus a driver’s knee air bag. Active Stability Control (ASC) also comes on every Lancer Sportback, and the GTS is equipped with Reinforced Impact Safety Engineering (RISE), a unibody construction designed to help absorb energy in a collision. Every Lancer Sportback has a built-in Anti-Theft system with immobilizer key, and the Touring Package adds HID (high intensity discharge) headlamps.

Premium Warranty
The 2010 Lancer Sportback GTS and Ralliart have comprehensive bumper-to-bumper warranties. The GTS comes with a 10-year/100,000 mile powertrain limited warranty with a fully transferable 5-year/60,000 mile warranty for subsequent owners, and a 5-year/60,000 mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty. The Ralliart offers a fully transferable 5-year/60,000 mile powertrain package and a 3-year/36,000 mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty. Both the GTS and Ralliart come with a 7-year/100,000 mile anti-corrosion/perforation limited warranty and 5-year unlimited miles Roadside Assistance benefits.

2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback to begin arriving to dealerships on this 17 August.

Mitsubishi Galant Fortis RALLIART

发表者 ddgg 7/12/08

Mitsubishi announced the launch of the Galant Fortis RALLIART (aka Lancer Ralliart) 4WD sedan in Japan which started sales yesterday in Japan for a price tag of 2,982,000 YEN. Like the Subaru WRX is to the STi, the Lancer Ralliart is to the EVO X – a low carb version powered by a turbocharged 4B11-type 2.0-liter 16-valve DOHC MIVEC engine good for 177 kW (240 PS) @ 6000 rpm and 343 Nm @ 3000 rpm. It's not as ballistic as the 300hp EVO X but provides a dynamic driving experience for far less the price. Expected to arrive on U.S. shores this September for under $27,000, the sensible Lancer Ralliart is a huge bargain compared to the EVO X's tag of $40,000.

Exterior

  • The car features a unique front bumper designed to reduce air resistance. Increasing the size of the “jet-fighter” grille, an element of the MMC sedan design identity, both improves engine cooling and with the chrome treatment of its perimeter enhances the premium look to the car. The bottom edge of the bumper is designed as an air dam for improved handling and vehicle stability at higher speeds.
  • The engine hood uses a lightweight aluminum panel with an air scoop to feed the turbocharger; twin air outlets discharge heat from the engine compartment.
  • The unique rear bumper accommodates twin tail pipes. The bumper’s design enhances airflow control and contributes to better straight-line stability at higher speeds.
  • The factory-fitted option rear decklid wing-spoiler generates effective downforce.
  • The grille and trunk lid carry the RALLIART emblem.

Interior

  • The interior uses an elegant deep black color scheme while the dashboard features an ornamentation panel comprising a geometric check pattern and silver pin beading that adds a mechanical taste and gives the cockpit a sporty, high-quality appearance.
  • The unique instrument cluster dials use matte black faces with white high-contrast graphics for excellent legibility.
  • The steering wheel and shifter knob are wrapped in luxurious genuine leather. The aluminum accelerator and brake pedals are fitted with non-slip rubber strips.
  • The front seats keep the occupant securely and comfortably positioned and use high-grip suede-knit upholstery. The shoulder bolster carries the RALLIART tag.
