Mercedes has announced the new generation A-Class will make its debut at the Auto Mobil International auto show in Leipzig. Available this spring, the new generation attempts to be more attractive and environmentally friendly than the previous version. Stop/Start technology will be available on the A 150 and A 170 which reduces fuel consumption by nine percent. The three-door A 160 CDI will have a fuel consumption rating of 4.5 liters per 100 kilometers. All these advances have earned the A-Class an environmental certificate, a first for the compact car class.
The exterior features new headlights that flow into the body, redesigned front and rear bumpers, a new grille, and new tail lights. Avantgarde models will have a unique bumper with a more pronounced arrow shape. Avantgarde and Elegance models feature 16-inch alloy wheels while base models make due with seven-spoke 15-inch wheels.
Inside the interior has been revamped with better materials such as higher grade upholstery fabrics and door trim. Updated audio and navigation systems feature Bluetooth technology, a SD-card slot and European-wide map coverage. Other changes include a center console featuring a larger storage compartment and new cup holders. Smoke grey trim is standard, Avantgarde models come with brushed aluminum, and Elegance models feature wood trim.
