
Vauxhall is pressing ahead with electric cars and - under the Opel badge - will reveal its new Ampera hatchback at Geneva in March.
Based on technology developed for the Chevrolet Volt, troubled parent company GM is pinning its hopes on electric power.
And in the race to develop a viable, usable everyday electrically powered vehicle Vauxhall could well be onto a winner with the Ampera. Although the picture is deliberately vague expect a useful Astra-sized car, utilising GM's Voltec drivetrain due for production readiness in 2010.
