Just one year ago Mazda launched the five-door Mazda2 supermini here in Geneva and thanks to its great commercial success it's now time for its three-door sibling to enter the limelight.
The Mazda2 (pictured) is offered in Mazda's special 'red mica colour', the same color in which the Ryuga concept car was presented at the 2007 Detroit Motor Show. Compared to the five-door model you'll find that the three-door Mazda 2 sports a new rear side window design. On the inside you'll find two-toned Recaro sports seats and a roomy interior, which Mazda insists hasn't been compromised with the removal of the rear doors. With six airbags and every imaginable three letter acronym (ABS, EBD, DSC ...) even the safety-concerned should have no problem falling in love with this car.
The new five- and three-door Mazda2 models are in fact over 100 kg lighter than their predecessor, pushing the total weight under 1000 kg. Combine that with a full five-star EuroNCAP rating and the top-of-the-range 1.5-litre 103 hp engine and it sure sounds like an attractive package.
