2011 HSV E-Series 3

发表者 ddgg 9/13/10

Australia’s favorite sports car is getting some updates for 2011, but not much has changed aesthetically, or mechanically for that matter. What HSV has done is added a slew of technological updates to the E-series to come up with the new E-Series 3. The sports car will go on sale at the end of this month.

The HSV Commodore E Series 3 features the new Enhanced Driver Interface (EDI), which streams vehicle performance data directly to the car's touch screen display. The HSV E Series 3 also comes with Liquid Propane Injection (LPI), which is offered on all the models, except the Clubsport R8 Tourer.

A new model-specific stainless-steel ID plate has pride-of-place in the piano black centre stack, and new twin-stitch seat trims are featured in the GTS and Senator Signature. There is also a new leather colour, dubbed Turismo Rosso.

In addition, HSV introduced a new limited edition "20 Years of Maloo" performance ute to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Maloo nameplate. Holden has raided its parts bin to give the Maloo hood scoops, 20-inch wheels from the GTS and a bi-modal exhaust system. Prices for the 20 Years of Maloo R8 will begin at AU$67,900 (about US$63,300) for the manual, with production limited to 100 units.

Press Release

Australia’s high performance car manufacturer Holden Special Vehicles is pleased to announce the launch of its new E Series 3, featuring a host of Australian production car firsts, and interior upgrades to the HSV range.

  • HSV’s new Enhanced Driver Interface, which streams vehicle performance data directly to the new touch screen display.
  • Liquid Propane Injection is the first system of its kind on an Australian production car, and is available as an option on all models, except for the Clubsport R8 Tourer.
  • HSV’s new Side Blind Zone Alert will be available as an option on every model in the E3 range – and is standard on Grange.

In addition to technological innovation, HSV has added a significant set of unique interior updates to the E Series 3, including;

  • New ‘Oracle’ dash
  • New model specific stainless steel ID plate on the centre console
  • New twin-stitch seat trims on GTS and Senator Signature, as well as a new leather colour in Turismo Rosso.
  • New binnacle gauges
  • Piano black trim on the centre console and steering wheel

The final stand-out aspect of the E Series 3 range is a raft of new standard features being offered on all HSV models, specifically;

  • Enhanced Driver Interface
  • Reverse camera with rear park assist
  • Satellite navigation
  • Touchscreen radio with iPod connectivity

HSV’s Managing Director, Phil Harding, believes the new E3 range has reached a new level of sophistication and continues the company’s long history of innovation.

“Our E3 range is an example of HSV’s passion for innovation, and determination to bring world leading technology to vehicles,” he said.

“You only have to look at EDI, LPI, and SBZA to know HSV is passionate about creating and building great all-round performance cars. More and more of our customers are showing greater interest in new technology, and have expressed a desire for unique points of difference in their vehicles. The combination of new technologies, stylish interior improvements, and a continued focus on all-round performance further strengthens HSV’s position as the ultimate in Australian-made performance cars.”

HSV’s new E Series 3 will arrive in showrooms at the end of this month.

Press Release

Luxurious broad image: LUMMA Design provides BMW 7 Series with broad-scoped aerodynamics package

  • Unique wide construction for Munich luxury limousine
  • Genuine carbon plus 22 inch wheels for enhanced sportiness
  • Refined aluminium interior

LUMMA Design gives the BMW 7 Series a wider look. The unique aerodynamics package lends the luxury limousine a more self-assured appearance, without neglecting the Munich model's elegant design or making it come across as flashy. Selected applications made from genuine carbon and 22 inch light alloy wheels ensure that the BMW with its noble finish exhibits independence while staying true to its sportiness. Aluminium in the interior lends an individual touch.

The fact that LUMMA Design has a sense of BMW's design language already becomes apparent in the front spoiler bumper. The curvature of the bonnet and the kidney front grille find their match in the new LUMMA front, which integrates grid inserts, fog lights and LED daytime running lights. The new shapely look is completed by the cup spoiler sword.

The ten-piece wheels arch extensions are key to the new sporty appearance: the luxury limousine becomes significantly wider, ensuring a dominant appearance. The door attachments and rear apron corners make for harmonious integration of the extension set and the full aerodynamics package.

LUMMA Design offers a set of deep door-sills that has been designed especially for the BMW 7 Series with its extended wheelbase, so as to bridge the parameterisation of the wheels arch extensions.

The aerodynamics package is completed by the new rear diffuser. Besides ensuring additional downforce, the diffuser highlights the sporty aspiration of the refined limousine.

The dynamic appearance of the LUMMA BMW is enhanced even further by the genuine carbon applications produced by the refining experts in Germany. These include exterior mirror caps, the kidney front grille frame, all door handle covers, the boot lid trim and the four-piece pillar trim set for doors and mud guards.

Naturally the wheels also contribute to the more sporty appearance. The impressive 22-inch light alloy rims are fitted with 265/30 high-performance Vredestein tyres in the front and 295/25 in the rear.

In addition, selected LUMMA Design improvements make for an upgraded interior. The aluminium two-piece pedal set with matching footrest provides the driver footwell with a superior look. Foot mats in the colour of the customer's choice featuring the embroidered LUMMA crest logo are also available for the large BMW, as is a boot mat in any colour, also featuring the embroidered logo.

Except for the deep door-sills, which are provided exclusively for the model with extended wheelbase, the construction extension, carbon applications, wheels and interior components fit all BMW 7 Series models. Obviously the required TÜV approval is included in every LUMMA Design delivery. Alternatively, the upgrade experts will perform the conversion at their head office in Winterlingen, Germany, including TÜV registration.

This year's SEMA show might have been a bit smaller than in years past, but there were certainly some heavy hitters in the crowd that proved the old "quality, not quantity" adage. Take, for instance, this super-clean, super-fine 1977 Pontiac Firebird. Like the Ringbrothers "Afterburner" Fairlane and the Goodguys Street Machine of the Year 1962 Corvette C1-RS, the look is modern, yet definitely retro. Dreamed up by hot rod artist Jimmy Smith, it was crafted to life by Pinkee's Rod Shop of Windsor, Colorado.

It has a smooth-as-glass appearance with its gloss black paint dripping off its shaved and streamlined form. Elegantly simple billet wheels, naked headlamps and a restyled rear complete the exterior look. The interior hasn't been forgotten either, as it is fully custom and equally straightforward. The same can be said for the engine bay, which looks like a surgical O.R., with its LS7 engine resting neatly in a fully customized bay. It was easily one of our favorite cars at this year's show.

SEMA Show: Lingenfelter T/A Concept

发表者 ddgg 11/3/09

Creating vehicles with astounding performance capabilities and "stop-in-your-tracks" curb appeal is nothing new for Lingenfelter Performance Engineering (LPE), and they've done it once again with their newest concept car the Lingenfelter T/A.

Readied for its debut in the Nitto Tire booth #46115 at the 2009 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, the Lingenfelter T/A utilizes "all the styling and muscle from the past combined with the technology and elegance of today," according to Ken Lingenfelter, owner of Lingenfelter Performance Engineering.

The vehicle, a modified 2010 Camaro with exhaustive engine and performance refinements as well as custom-molded body styling, harkens to the muscle-heavy '70s cars so beloved by enthusiasts.

"Lingenfelter Performance Engineering designed and built this vehicle with one goal in mind - to celebrate, in a most pronounced manner, America's muscle-car heritage," said Lingenfelter. "Just one look at its spirited design is all it takes to realize Lingenfelter knows power. And a turn of the key confirms that fact as all 650 horses start running."

First and foremost is the Lingenfelter T/A's power plant - a custom Racing Head Service (RHS) aluminum engine block with an impressive 455 cubic inch displacement. It features 4.155" bore Diamond 11.5:1 compression ratio pistons and a 4.200" stroke Lunati forged crankshaft. Lingenfelter Performance Engineering-brand CNC ported and polished LS7 heads and an LSX FAST 102 intake finish off the engine, which produces 655 hp and 610 ft.-lbs. of torque.

To assist the Lingenfelter T/A in handling that raw power, the car also features a Lingenfelter 6-bolt LS9 twin disk flywheel and clutch assembly and heavy-duty Driveshaft Shop halfshafts.

Body enhancements to the Lingenfelter Performance Engineering concept vehicle include a dramatic new hood with a shaker scoop and blue keyed stripe. A new front fascia borrows from the vehicle's inspired muscle car heritage, and incorporates custom head lamps, grille and turn signals for authentic detailing. The car's fender has a functional side extractor scoop and the rear quarter has a leading edge wheel flair. Dramatic details in the back again point to the vehicle's 1970s roots. Rear corners of the car have been extended nearly 4-inch with a wrapped down stand-up spoiler. Custom-created taillight housings nicely complement the package.

Wheels are custom designed 20-inch Honeycomb's with bright brushed aluminum details and are shorn with Nitto Tires in size 275/40ZR20 fronts and 315/35ZR20 rears.

A custom-designed CORSA Performance stainless steel exhaust provides even more torque for the Lingenfelter T/A concept vehicle, which is finished in an icy, bright white with an electric blue stripe running from front to rear.

Finally, to complete the muscle car experience, bright blue woven vinyl seat inserts and metal turned instrument panel accents highlight the interior. And Lingenfelter badges, indicating the vehicle's authenticity as a certified Lingenfelter creation, adorn the exterior.

For more than 30 years, Lingenfelter Performance Engineering has created a matchless heritage of bringing astounding new capabilities to the world's most sought-after sports cars. This legendary record of precision engineering continues today, as the highly skilled Lingenfelter production team continues to target design excellence in engine packages, superchargers and high-performance aftermarket components that refine power, speed and control. Lingenfelter Pontiac Trans Am Camaro Concept

There are many behind-the-scenes players in the automotive industry that few on the outside ever hear of, despite their huge contributions. One such company is Lingenfelter, which in conjunction with Hot Rod Magazine, plans to unveil a new Pontiac Trans Am concept based on the latest 2010 Chevrolet Camaro.

Lingenfelter Pontiac Trans Am Camaro Concept

Labeled the 'LTA 455' Trans Am, and inspired by the original Camaro-based Trans Ams from 1971, the new design has been in development for the past three years and will be previewed for the first time in concept form at the 2009 SEMA Auto Show in Las Vegas next month.

Nopar: Pontiac G6 "Super Bee"

发表者 ddgg 6/28/09

While Pontiac gets ready to take a dirt nap next to Oldsmobile and the folks at Chrysler's Auburn Hills HQ brush up on their Italian, at least one American driver is showing us what might have been if the once-proposed Chrysler/GM merger (remember those days?) had come to be. Consider the perfect storm of hideous product decisions that could have ensued under such a tie-up.

What's that? Your mind's eye can't envision a scenario so horrifying? No worries. Autoblog reader Berto snagged some photos illustrating just how kooky things could have gotten. Imagine one automaker's muscle heritage fused with the base-level front-drive mediocrity of another. Imagine, friends, the Pontiac G6 V6 Super Bee. Thanks, Berto!

Back in February we brought you initial news of the supercar being developed by Formula 3 racing team GTA. The exotic was tipped to be powered by a mid-mounted 700hp V10, however, reports circulating around the internet now suggest that the ten-cylinder powerplant for this vaporware supercar will produce closer to 800hp and be sourced from -- wait for it -- Pontiac.

We'll take that one with an overloaded container ship's worth of salt. Last we checked, GM didn't have a V10 in its parts bin, and the mere idea of the General developing a bespoke engine just for this Spanish racing outfit's nonexistent sports car is ridiculous on its face. Now, add in the detail that this mythical powerplant would then wear the Pontiac arrowhead logo -- that's straitjacket-type stuff, people. We know the General is eager to put the excitement back into the Excitement Division, but come on. Let's be rational.

Making headlines and breaking records
Since General Motors of Canada unveiled the Top Tuner Solstice at the 2006 Sport Compact Performance Show in Montreal last October, the vehicle has caused shockwaves throughout the tuner scene. Both in Canada and in the United States, the Top Tuner Solstice has been received with overwhelming enthusiasm by tuners and performance enthusiasts. The Top Tuner Solstice returned to Montreal, as a feature in the GM of Canada display at the 2007 Montreal International Auto Show.
Building on its ongoing commitment to the aftermarket tuner enthusiast, GM of Canada worked closely with the industry's most notable tuners in the country to take a stock Pontiac Solstice to the tuning extreme, creating the Top Tuner Solstice.
Projected to have a street value of $500,000, the Top Tuner Solstice combines the best in personalization and customization, including Sound, Speed, and Style. With over 30 companies from across Canada participating in this project, the Top Tuner Solstice is the talk of the aftermarket industry. This was more than evident when the Top Tuner Solstice debuted at the 2006 SEMA Show in Las Vegas where the vehicle set records receiving an award in each of the three competitions at the show. These included the Mother's Polish Shine Award, Sony Playstation Gran Turismo Award ("Best Domestic") and the General Motors Design Award ("Best New Product") for producing a completely new vehicle on a brand new platform.
The Evolution of the Top Tuner Solstice
For the first time ever, the best-of-the-best in Canada were assembled into one team to pour their collective passion and energy into one vehicle that captures the extreme essence of the Pontiac Solstice.
With only four months to complete the overhaul, award winning Torontonian tuner Tajai Das from Elite Tuners of Canada, was the project lead on this industry first project. Known within the industry as the master behind the award winning 1994 Acura Integra "Acurabot", Das recruited five tuners that have risen to the top of the tuner scene, each to handle a specific stage of the Top Tuner Solstice
Known for his Candy Orange right hand drive Cobalt SS-SC, Keith Losier from Desired Customs in Niagara Falls, Ontario applied his expertise to create a custom Pioneer audio/entertainment system to be the envy of anyone yearning for the latest and cutting edge in-car-entertainment.
As for the interior, Vito Ianniciello from Seam Line in Woodbridge, Ontario designed and installed a completely re-upholstered red suede interior that runs from the passenger cabin into the trunk well containing the subwoofer system.
Under the hood, Simon Rowe from Rowetech Automotive in Oakville, Ontario was responsible for installing and tuning the 2.0L crate engine donated to the project by GM Performance Parts. Simon had the background, experience, and expertise to install the GM Performance Parts into the crate engine, including: LSJ Connecting Rods, Piston Set for LSJ Rods, Adjustable Cam Gears, High Performance Cam Set, Aluminum Fabricated Intake Manifold and Neutral Balance Shafts and a CTS-V Rear Differential (gear set).
Known in the industry as the go-to for the best in custom fabrication, Chris Nankoo from Phat Custom Rides in Montreal, Quebec created a one the one-of-a-kind custom exterior body kit for the Top Tuner Solstice. Chris took the time and effort to create the molds necessary to fabricate a custom fiberglass hardtop, fiberglass hood, and a widebody ground-effects kit for the vehicle.
For a truly one of a kind paint job, Serge Leger from Henry's Auto Body in Shediac, New Brunswick mixed a custom paint job with high gloss candy coated application called Vivacious Candy Green that no other paintshop in Canada offers.

Rhys Millen will pilot turbocharged roadster in defense of his Formula D title
Building on the success of the GTO drifting program, Pontiac unveiled on Friday their next generation drift vehicle based on the upcoming turbocharged Solstice GXP. The new Red Bull Solstice GXP Drift, which will once again be piloted by 2005 Formula Drift champion Rhys Millen, will make its official Formula D drifting debut on June 10 at Solider Field in Chicago.
The stylish design and power of the Red Bull Solstice GXP Drift car along with the talent and expertise of Millen will be a formidable combination on the Formula D circuit this year. The GXP Drift features a race-modified version of the Solstice GXP turbocharged 2.0-liter ECOtec engine, while Millen is the reigning 2005 drift Formula D champion behind the wheel of his Pontiac GTO.
“The Red Bull Solstice GXP Drift is an excellent match for the tuner market where turbocharged engines dominate,” said Carmen Smith, GM Racing program manager for drifting. “Additionally, the GXP Drift maximizes the use of GM production components and race parts available through GM Performance Parts. Not only is the engine based on the production ECOtec, the transmission is a GM production six-speed and we’ve maintained the production GXP rear differential. Of course, we’ve used many race parts from GM Performance Parts and from sponsors such as Bridgestone, Rotora, Exedy, Racing Hart, and Sparco.”
The turbocharged Red Bull Solstice GXP Drift is a two-door hard-top roadster with rear-wheel drive and a six-speed transmission. The heart of the Solstice GXP Drift is the ECOtec 2.0-liter turbo engine, producing over 500 horsepower, roughly double the horsepower of the street-legal GXP available in dealerships this fall. This competition ECOtec turbo engine, running on E85 ethanol-based fuel, uses thick-wall iron cylinder liners, a race-ported cylinder head, tubular stainless steel exhaust headers, a performance camshaft, a unique engine control system and a water to air intercooled turbocharger. It was developed by the same GM Racing engineers behind the successful ECOtec sport compact drag racing motors, which generate over 1,400 horsepower in a 2.2-liter turbocharged configuration.

Consumers got a sneak peak of the production Solstice GXP roadster convertible during the L.A. Auto Show in January. The GXP is based on the hot-selling Solstice that was launched last year as Pontiac ’s first production two-seat roadster and became almost instantly popular for its classic roadster style, crisp handling and spirited performance. The 2006 model of the Solstice is sold out and there is already a waiting list of customers for the 2007 model.
The GXP is an extension of the capabilities of Pontiac ’s original roadster while taking the performance abilities to a new level with a 47 percent boost in horsepower thanks to the turbocharged 2.0-liter ECOtec engine, the most powerful production engine in the ECOtec family. This 260-horsepower production engine is similar to the engine found in the GXP Drift vehicle which should appeal to the youth market and drifting enthusiasts. The turbocharged 2007 Solstice GXP will arrive in Pontiac showrooms this fall.
Currently second-place in points after the season-opener, Millen will aim to take over the points lead during the second drift event of 2006 on May 12-13 at Road Atlanta. Millen will then put the new Red Bull Solstice GXP Drift to the test at Soldier Field on June 10 during the third round of Formula D competition. Five rounds remain before the championships at Irwindale Speedway on Oct. 14 where the Formula D title will be awarded.
"With a powerful product like Pontiac and the experience of team RMR, this fierce combination of response and talent has helped me win events and ultimately the championship," said Millen. "The Solstice has sold like crazy in the marketplace and I can only imagine the excitement of the fans when I bring the Solstice GXP Drift to Chicago . With the added power, this new drift vehicle is sure to give me a boost against some very strong competition while fighting for our second drift title."
Rhys Millen Racing (RMR) of Huntington Beach, California, has a comprehensive history of competing and winning in various forms of motorsports, including rally and desert racing. All the experiences gained from competition are skillfully applied towards performance parts available through RMR’s retail divisions, RMR Products and R. Millen Motorsports. The full line of race proven products can be found at the company’s web site at www.rmrproducts.com.

All season Solstice

The Pontiac Solstice has been living up to GM's expectations and has today resulted in the addition of a new model to the Solstice range, the Pontiac Solstice Coupe. The Solstice Coupe will arrive at dealerships in early 2009.

The Pontiac Solstice is based on Europe's Opel GT Roadster but has now surpassed its preceptor. The Solstice Coupe on show at the the New York International Auto Show is based on the GXP model, powered by a 2.0L turbocharged Ecotec engine with 260 horsepower (194 kW). The regular Solstice Coupe will feature a 2.4 liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine generating 173 horsepower (129 kW).

The Coupe is a multi-functional car with its detachable roof, after all summer will eventually make it up to Maine too. “The coupe has all the design cues and pleasing performance of the original roadster, and is an all-season alternative for people who enjoy open-air driving,” said Jim Bunnell, Buick-Pontiac-GMC general manager.

EDAG had already once put a hard-top onto the Solstice too, with a less slanted roof line, but Pontiac primarily took inspiration from their own 2002 Pontiac Solstice Coupe Concept. “The sleek lines of the new roof give the car a fresh appearance, yet only minimal changes were made to the body structure,” said Bruce Kosbab, chief engineer.

2009 Pontiac Vibe

发表者 ddgg 3/17/08

General Motors has officially launched its 2009 Pontiac Vibe at an event held today in Detroit. Not surprisingly, the Vibe shares many of its mechanics with its sister car — the recently unveiled Toyota Matrix — although the exterior is unique to the Pontiac brand. Like the Matrix, the Vibe will also offer an all-wheel drive model for 2009.

The Vibe's engine choices mirror that of the Matrix; customers can choose from either a 1.8L four-cylinder rated at 132 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque or a 2.4L four rated at 158 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. The 2.4L will be standard on all-wheel drive models and GT models and will be optional on the base model..

Depending on the model and powertrain options, customers will be able to choose from several transmissions. Base model cars with the 1.8L engine will come standard with a five-speed manual transmission, with a four-speed auto optional. AWD models will only be available with a four-speed automatic. GT models and cars equipped with the 2.4L engine will come with a five-speed manual, with a five-speed automatic optional.

Fuel economy for the 1.8L engines ranges between 25-26 city and 31-31 highway, depending on transmission is selected. The 2.4L ranges between 21 city and 28-29 highway. As expected, the AWD option decreases mileage to 20/26 city/highway.

All models will feature a MacPherson-strut front suspension design, with the base model using a solid beam rear axle and GT and AWD models using a fully independent rear suspension. Four-wheel disc brakes with ABS will be standard throughout the model range, as well as electronic stability control and traction control.

The exterior of the Vibe is "clean and purposeful," and GM claims it exemplifies the future of Pontiac’s design. Like with the Matrix, each trim level will have its own unique styling cues, with AWD models receiving a roof rack and GT models wearing a new front fascia. The interior is also all-new and has a driver-focused cockpit design. The 2009 Vibe has 49.4 cubic feet of cargo space with its rear seats folded down.

The 2009 Pontiac Vibe is expect to hit dealer showrooms in early 2008.
