Chevrolet Volt will be sold in Europe

The Chevrolet Volt will be sold in Europe, along side the Opel and the Vauxhall Ampera and there is a chance that both could be sold at the time in the same region.

Chevrolet says the Volt will cost €41,950, including Europe's hefty value added tax, when it goes on sale in Germany later this year, and will carry a similar price tag when it launches on the rest of the continent.

The Chevrolet Volt and Opel Ampera are basically the same car, differentiated by the unique design of the front and rear of the car. Both models are manufactured at the General Motors plant in Detroit, Hamtramck, Michigan and have the same specifications: an electric motor of 111kW (150hp) and 370nm of torque, 161km / h top speed from 40 to 80km electric range and up to 600km using gasoline.

Chevrolet Volt to go on sale for €41,950

Germany price announced at Geneva Motor Show press conference
Standard eight-year/160,000 km warranty on battery and powertrain

Zurich. The award-winning electric car with extended-range capability, the Chevrolet Volt, will be offered for a price of €41,950 (including VAT) in Germany. This was announced in the Chevrolet press conference at the Geneva Motor Show 2011. The Volt will come fully equipped with all the safety features you would expect and a host of convenience features, including leather seats. Similar prices can be expected for other euro markets.

European Chevrolet customers will have the same unprecedented standard eight-year/160,000 km warranty as U.S. customers on the Voltec powertrain and the advanced lithium-ion battery. It is the automotive industry's longest, most comprehensive battery warranty for an electric vehicle.

"We believe Volt is the best solution on the planet today for worry-free electric driving", says Wayne Brannon, President and Managing Director of Chevrolet Europe. "Our price in Europe is based on the U.S. Volt price adjusted for transportation cost, import duties, exchange rates and homologation."

The Chevrolet Volt is designed and engineered to be the only car in the household. It is the world's first electric vehicle with extended-range capability, a four-seater that can drive between 40 and 80 km electrically with a small fuel-powered generator that sustains the battery charge to extend the range to about 600 km in total. Due to its instant torque of 368 Nm the Volt only needs nine seconds from 0-100 km/h and achieves a top speed of 161 km/h. To charge the battery all you need is a normal household 230-Volt power outlet. The charging will take between three to four hours.

Since late 2010, the Volt has been on sale in the first seven U.S. launch markets (California, Connecticut, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Texas, and Washington, DC). Thanks to the high demand, it was decided to speed up the national rollout so the Volt will be sold in the remaining U.S. states by the end of 2011. The Volt will reach European Chevrolet showrooms in November of 2011, just in time for Chevrolet's 100th birthday.

Chevrolet plans to produce 10,000 Volts by the end of the 2011 calendar year, and an additional 45,000 Volts during the 2012 calendar year. The Chevrolet Volt is produced at GM's Detroit Hamtramck plant in Michigan, U.S.A. The state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery is produced at GM's Brownstone Township plant, also located in Michigan.

Opel revealed their lineup for the 2011 Geneva Motor Show and it includes the new Zafira Tourer Concept which they claim will take flexibility, comfort and sophistication to the next level. They refer to this car as a ‘lounge on wheels’.

The Opel Zafira Tourer Concept is based on the next generation of the model and promises to be a genuine Lounge On Wheels. The Opel Zafira Tourer Concept previews a possible future monocab production vehicle that will define a new segment in the automotive industry.

The car will feature a completely new wing shaped headlamp that creates a very dynamic look. Moreover, the new Zafira Tourer Concept brings Insignia ambition, quality and innovative technologies and according to the German manufacturer it is designed to ensure that every journey is pleasant, safe and relaxing for all aboard.

On the outside, the Zafira Tourer Concept features the new corporate logo and grille on its nose, 'blade' surfacing on its flanks, as introduced on the latest Astra, and distinctive wing-like headlights which will mark out the production car from its rivals.

Opel Ampera production car – e-mobility within drivers’ grasp

Keeping the promises it made in the last years, Opel will continue being a trendsetter with the market introduction of the Ampera by the end of this year. The production model of the Opel Ampera that will debut at the Geneva Motor Show does not deviate from the targets set during the development phase while its bold design remains very close to that of the early concept cars.

The Opel Ampera extended-range electric vehicle will be the first electric car in Europe suitable for everyday driving: it gives drivers the peace of mind that they won’t be stranded due to a flat battery. With its unique electric propulsion system providing lively acceleration and high levels of refinement, the five-door Ampera seats four passengers and offers ample trunk space. It is powered by electricity at all times and speeds. For the first 40 – 80 kilometers, power is supplied by the electricity stored in the 16-kWh, lithium-ion battery. While driving on electricity delivered by the battery, the Ampera moves free of gas and tailpipe-emissions.

Independent research found that about 80 percent of Europeans drive less than 60 kilometers per day, so the Ampera would easily meet their requirements. When the Ampera’s battery runs low, it can be recharged in about four hours at 230V by plugging the vehicle’s on-board charge system into a standard outlet. Because the battery can be recharged quickly, most Amperas are likely to be driven in battery mode all the time. If a longer trip is required, the gasoline-fueled engine/generator can seamlessly extend the total driving range to more than 500 kilometers on a full tank. This range-extending technology makes the Ampera the first practical car with worry-free electric driving. The extremely quiet 111 kW/150 hp electric motor delivers 370 meters torque from a standstill. It accelerates the Ampera from zero to 100 km/h in around nine seconds and enables a maximum speed of 161 km/h.

Zafira Tourer Concept: A Lounge On Wheels

Opel ecoFLEX family: More efficiency thanks to Start/Stop technology deployment

Opel stands for sustainable and practical mobility without compromising on driving fun. Opel ecoFLEX models enable low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions without skimping on performance or dynamic driving – all at an affordable price.

The new ecoFLEX family displayed in features two major novelties:

The Corsa 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX now combines its 70 kW/95 hp powertrain with Start/Stop technology, offering combined fuel consumption of 3.5 liters per 100 km and emitting just 94 g/km CO2 .
Start/Stop technology is also available in the new version of the Opel Astra 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX (70 kW/95 hp). In the 5-door hatchback, it reduces CO2 emissions from 109 to just 104 g/km and combined fuel consumption from 4.1 liters to 3.9 liters per 100 km. Starting 2011 – the new face of Opel Antara and Opel Corsa

Starting in the spring of 2011 with accentuated exterior design, new engines, newly tuned chassis and an upgraded interior, the re-designed Opel Antara combines sporty off-road flair with high utility value and urban chic. The fully re-worked engine line-up consists of two new 2.2 CDTI units with 120 kW/163 hp and 135 kW/184 hp, and a new 2.4 ECOTEC gasoline variant with 123 kW/167 hp. All engines meet Euro 5 emissions standards and guarantee improved driving performance with significantly reduced consumption and emissions. The two available transmissions – a six-speed manual and an automatic – have also been completely newly developed. Refinements to the chassis and active safety include improvements to the ABS system and the standard fitting of Hill Start Assist (HSA) which prevents roll-back when driving away on grades.

Following the overhaul of everything under its skin in 2010 – engine line-up, chassis and steering system – the Opel Corsa gets a new wardrobe in 2011. Opel Antara Facelift Price Announced

German manufacturer Opel has released Antara facelift Price for the European market.

The exterior highlights of the updated Antara include a newly designed front grille with the trademark Opel chrome bar, new fog lamps, adapted underride protection, modified rear lights and large-format, 19-inch alloy wheels. The enhanced interior features new paneling and upholstery materials, optimized instrument graphics, a new center console, additional storage space as well as elegant interior lighting. An especially high-grade leather version, called Light Titanium is available as an option.

The model will enter the market shortly and will come with a mildly revised exterior and a tweaked engine lineup. The powerplants which will power the new Antara have been enriched with the addition of a new 2.2l CDTI Turbo diesel, which develops either 163 hp or 184 hp. An additional 30 hp have been added to the 2.4l petrol engine.

Opel Ampera Euro price €42,900

2012 Opel Ampera will be priced from €42,900, which equals roughly $58,718 USD based on current exchange rates, or $18,438 more than a Volt here in the States. Sure, the front end is more aggressive and the wheels are better but is the Ampera nearly $20,000 better than the our all-American electric sedan?

The answer lies with Europe's Value Added Tax, otherwise known as VAT – add German's 19 percent VAT, and the final price becomes €42,900. Take away the VAT and the price is €36,050 or about $49,280, which is a bit closer to the cost of the Volt.

Those interested in purchasing an Opel Ampera can register at Opel-Ampera.com to become "ePioneers." Those brave, electric pioneers will have access to updates on the car, a chance to test drive one and the first opportunity to purchase the Ampera when it goes on sale in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Electric mobility is the best solution for reducing automobile emissions and dependency on petroleum but if electric vehicles are to have a significant benefit on the environment and society, they must be attractive to a wide variety of buyers, not just city dwellers. Now this ambitious goal has become considerably easier to reach - with the revolutionary Ampera electric car.

The majority of drivers will find an electric car, such as the Ampera, remarkably easy to accept. That is because in addition to a powerful, 16 kWh lithium-ion battery, it has a unique electric propulsion system that extends its driving range. While providing all the benefits of state-of-the-art battery electric vehicles, such as zero tailpipe emissions and spirited performance, the innovative Ampera is not compromised by the typical disadvantages, such as limited range or long hours of immobility spent recharging a large battery.

That makes the five-door, four-seat Ampera the first electric car in Europe to give owners the freedom to drive wherever, whenever they want, with no worries of being stranded with a depleted battery. Some competitors choose to split their offers for electric cars into two portions: a base price for the car and a leasing rate for the battery pack. However, battery leases are paid monthly for several years, so the total cost is roughly the same as a car whose total price includes both the car and the battery. Opel's pricing scheme eliminates confusion by listing the total cost of the car and battery. Opel is also researching customer preferences regarding financing and leasing schemes for the Ampera. Opel has released new details about the 2011 Astra Sports Tourer.
The Sports Tourer will be the second model to join the new Astra range, which has now sold over 28,000 units in the UK (to end of May) since its launch last December, and has helped the Astra become Britain’s best-selling retail range in the first five months of this year.Combining high levels of practicality, clothed in a typically sleek and rakish body from Brit, Mark Adams’ design team, the Sports Tourer will be available to order from the start of October.

The Astra Sports Tourer’s athletic looks are backed by an equally athletic driving experience. The new wagon shares the same innovative rear suspension and mechatronic FlexRide chassis as its hatchback peer. Other class leading features such as AFL+ adaptive forward lighting and medically-approved ergonomic front seats add comfort and safety to the driving fun on offer.

Under the hood, a variety of four-cylinder engines will be available. New Opel design language debuts in compact wagon class

The Astra Sports Tourer now takes Opel's exciting new design language - sculptural artistry meets German precision - into the compact wagon segment. Conceived in parallel with its hatchback stable mate, the wagon variant has its own stand alone identity. The athletic close-coupled proportions give it a unique presence, beyond being simply a wagon version of the hatchback.

From the B-pillars rearward, the bodywork is all new. The Astra Sports Tourer's athletic character is defined by a single window graphic that tapers towards the D-pillar and a strong shoulder line, culminating in wide, sculpted tail lamp units, which adds a feeling of toned muscularity.

The sleek looks are accentuated by long, slim roof bars that flow neatly into a wide roof spoiler integrated into the top of the tailgate. Its raked angle helps create a dynamic profile that's in perfect balance with the swept, frontal styling. The signature Astra blade motif, sculpted into the side body ahead of the rear wheels, contributes to the sense of movement.

That elegant, stylish bodywork houses a surprisingly spacious cargo deck. Deep and flat sided, the fully carpeted trunk is free of any odd, space-eating corners or intrusions from the rear wheel-arches.

The Astra Sports Tourer is the first compact wagon outside the premium segment to offer a remote seat-folding function. This ergonomic convenience provided by the FlexFold Rear Seats allows the cargo-carrying capacity to be increased from 500 to 1,550 liters by simply pushing a button. It automatically releases and lowers each section of the 60/40 split-fold rear seat back. It's no longer necessary to walk around the vehicle to separately lower each seat-back. Opel engineers have also designed the system to function without having to first move the seatbelts clear of the seat backs. With the seat backs down, the cargo deck is extended to an impressive 1,835 mm -- 28 mm more than in the current Astra Station Wagon.

The Astra Sports Tourer joins premium compact cars in offering a two-touch luggage compartment cover. The Easy Access Cover slides upward and out of the way with a simple tap to load or remove smaller items. For larger loads, the cover retracts completely into the cassette with a quick hand motion, coming to a soft stop. When not needed, the complete assembly can be easily removed and stored below the load floor of the cargo space.

Versatility options include:

A tailored, multi-fold Luggage Compartment Liner, which protects the cargo floor carpeting, the tailgate opening, the rear bumper and the lowered seat backs.
Opel's adaptable FlexOrganizer storage system consisting of nets and dividers that allow owners to customize the configuration of the cargo space.
A new generation of Opel's innovative integrated FlexFix bicycle carrier will also be available next year.
As the Astra Sports Tourer is likely to pull trailers, Opel's electronic Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) system is activated when an Opel-approved towing hitch is fitted to the vehicle. This sophisticated safety feature uses the standard Electronic Stability Control system to counter any instability that may occur when towing a trailer or caravan.

The Astra Sports Tourer benefits from the same harmoniously sculpted, high quality interior first seen in the hatchback. The wraparound wing front fascia arcs across the cabin into the top of the door moldings, creating a warm and inviting ambience.

Extended powertrain line-up: CO2 emissions down to 109 g/km

The 1.7-liter CDTI comes in two states of tune, providing 81 kW/110 hp and 260 Nm, or 92 kW/125 hp and 280 Nm of torque. Combined cycle fuel consumption in both cases is 4.5 l/100 km, together with CO2 emissions of 119 g/km.

The range-topping 2.0-liter CDTI engine is now offered with a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions. Packing 118 kW/160 hp and plentiful torque of 350 Nm from just 1,750 rpm, it delivers zero to 100 km/h acceleration in less than ten seconds. The combined fuel consumption with the manual transmission is 5.1 l/100 km with CO2 emissions of 134 g/km.

The gasoline menu comprises 1.4 and 1.6-liter engines, each naturally-aspirated and turbocharged, with a power bandwidth from 74 kW/100 hp to 132 kW/180 hp. Continuously variable valve timing, on both inlet and exhaust sides, is featured in all engines except the 1.6-liter turbo.

An all new 1.4-liter turbo gasoline unit was introduced with this new generation Astra. Two outputs are now available. The 103 kW/140 hp version replaced the previous1.8-liter naturally-aspirated unit of similar power. In line with Opel's downsizing engine strategy, it allows a valuable gain of nearly 15 percent in fuel efficiency, as well as 14 percent more torque for a combined fuel consumption of just 6.1 l/100 km. It is available with six-speed manual or automatic transmissions. The new 88 kW/120 hp version makes its debut in the Astra line-up with model year 2011 with a six-speed manual gearbox. It has an average fuel consumption of 6.1 l/100 km.

Six-speed manual gearboxes are standard on the 1.4 Turbo and 1.6 Turbo gasoline engines as well as the 1.7 and 2.0 CDTI motors. The 1.4 and 1.6-liter naturally-aspirated and the 1.3-liter turbo diesel engines come with five-speed transmissions. An all-new, six-speed automatic transmission is available as an option on the 1.6 naturally aspirated, the 1.4 Turbo (103 kW/140 hp) and 1.6 Turbo gasoline engines as well as the 2.0 CDTI.

German manufacturer Opel has unveiled the shows off the GTC Paris concept. Measuring 4.46 meters long, the 5-seater GTC Paris concept is motivated by a 290hp 2.0 liter turbocharged four potter with direct injection. The engine is linked to an engine start/stop function and a 6-speed manual transmission.

Essentially a preview of the Astra OPC / VXR, the GTC features an aggressive front fascia, LED daytime running lights, and 21-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin is outfitted with sport seats, metallic trim and a flat-bottom steering wheel.

Showcasing Opel's emotional side, the GTC Paris concept car is conceived to be the obtainable dream car delivering German engineering precision and innovation matched with eye-popping design. Inspiration was partly drawn from a quote from Richard Bach's famous novel, Jonathan Livingston Seagull "...and the speed was pure beauty."

This phrase is embodied throughout the character of the sporty compact three-door hatchback, with its sweeping lines, sculptural surfaces and wide muscular stance. It is bold yet pure and very iconic in presence. At 4.46 meters, the GTC Paris offers room for five passengers.

Most iconic cars have been drawn from the side. Many can be sketched with two or three sharp lines. So, too, with Opel's new concept car: In profile, the designers have maximized tension by limiting the amount of lines in the GTC Paris. Similar to tendons in a sprinter, these lines create tension and provide a sculpted shape. They serve as the foundation to which the highlights and surfacing react and press into the wheels in a very athletic fashion.

The Opel signature blade is introduced in the same direction as first seen in the Insignia - a fine, crisp line that sweeps upward from the rocker at the beginning of the front door. A second line encapsulates the door handle and sweeps to the rear, emphasizing the vehicle's dramatic stance by spreading the surfaces to a fine undercut and a broad shoulder. The third line following the silhouette of the roof is finished in finely brushed aluminum accentuating the window, guiding the eye to the sharply accented integrated spoiler.

Echoing the flowing, simple forms of the bodywork, the hallmarks of the GTC Paris interior are sweeping lines and shapes as well as the bold use of fabric. The interior is driver-focused, with a positive/negative use of color. While the driver's seat is red with black trim, the rest of the interior is outfitted in a charcoal black with red stitching.

The best of Opel's compact car technology is brought to its sportiest level on the GTC Paris. The chassis has a special design with an extra-wide stance.
