2012 Honda Civic Type R Mugen 2.2 debuted on Thursday, this car is a sort of tribute to the highly successful Honda K20 2.0-litre petrol engine which has gone out of production in Japan.

The Honda Civic Type R Mugen 2.2 gets a sports suspension, more powerful brakes and a bodykit. Under the hood the cylinder bore and stroke have been increased, which has bumped up the power to 260 horsepower.

Plans for the Honda Civic Type R MUGEN 2.2 car have yet to be finalised. Of the 20 limited edition 2.0-litre cars launched in 2010, four remain unsold and it’s possible MUGEN Euro may offer them with the reworked engine.

Interior was replaced with more carbon fiber parts. The car also features Intelligent-Tire Condition Monitoring System (i-TCMS) and Recaro seats.

EVEN MORE MUGEN POWER FOR HONDA CIVIC TYPE R

One of the most exclusive and explosive hot hatches of recent years has been given an extra dose of MUGEN power.

The Honda Civic Type R MUGEN debuted in 2010 to near-universal acclaim, and a 20-strong limited edition production run of the hand-built, motorsport-derived machines went on sale to UK enthusiasts.

Now technicians at Northampton-based MUGEN Euro have worked their magic again, producing a unique version with even more power and torque.

The cylinder bore and stroke have been increased to create an overall capacity of 2,156cc, so the car has been christened the Honda Civic Type R MUGEN 2.2.

The result of the change is a boost in engine output from 240 to 260PS, and additional torque is available throughout the rev range. Peak torque is now 240Nm at 6,000rpm. Compared to a standard Honda Civic Type R, both power and torque are up 30 per cent.

When coupled to the host of motorsport-derived components created exclusively by MUGEN - including sports suspension, uprated brakes and a stunning performance bodykit - the MUGEN 2.2 represents the ultimate expression of the Honda Civic Type R philosophy.

It has been created as a fitting tribute to the highly successful Honda K20 2.0-litre petrol engine, which has ceased production in Japan. Homologated by MUGEN as an FIA Group N race series engine, the K20 has long been the powerplant of choice with tuners and motorsports competitors who want the very best in naturally aspirated performance.

Moreover, it has been at the very heart of everything MUGEN Euro has achieved since the company was formed in 2006. Its skilled engineers have built or tuned almost 400 examples for race and rally competitors around the world.

The Honda K20 engine has also powered the only two complete road cars produced by MUGEN; the Honda Civic MUGEN RR four-door saloon sold in Japan, plus the limited Honda Civic Type R MUGEN sold in the UK.

Hiro Toyoda, vice-president of MUGEN Euro, commented: "Environmental pressures mean naturally aspirated engines are rapidly being superseded by other engine architectures and technologies. We may never see the like of the K20 in a mainstream production car again, so felt it only fitting we mark the occasion with this special 2.2 version of the Honda Civic Type R".

Plans for the 2.2 car have yet to be finalised. Of the 20 limited edition 2.0-litre cars launched in 2010, four remain unsold and it's possible MUGEN Euro may offer them with the reworked engine. Existing owners could also be invited to return their cars for an upgrade. A decision on these two proposals is expected to be made shortly.

2011 Honda TS-1X concept

Honda is announcing its lineup of vehicles for the 2011 Tokyo Auto Salon starting Friday, January 14th to Sunday, January 16th, 2011. So far we gather that the line-up will include both automobiles and motorcycles, with the most impressive model being the TS-1X test study based on the CR-Z.

The most interesting creation will be the one made by Honda Access Corporation, company’s manufacturer of genuine Honda aftermarket parts and accessories, which it will introduce the TS-1X test study model based on the CR-Z.

Honda TS-1X also boasts big rims in matte black fitted with high-performance tires. Under them, there are yellow performance brakes.

Besides the TS-1X, Honda will also display the Sports Modulo NSX and the HSV-010 GT which boasts a naturally-aspirated 3.4-liter V8 engine with upwards of 500 hp (373 kW / 507 PS) and 392 Nm (289 lb-ft) of torque.

Overview of Honda Exhibition at Tokyo Auto Salon 2011

January 12, 2011 - Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced that it will present an exhibit at Tokyo Auto Salon 2011 with NAPAC*1, to be held from Friday, January 14, to Sunday, January 16, 2011, at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. On display will be automobiles and motorcycles (including display vehicles), power products, racing vehicles, and other products, that highlight the many possibilities that customization has to offer while simultaneously conveying the joy of mobility and motorsports appeal.

At this year's event, Honda Access Corporation*2, the manufacturer of genuine Honda aftermarket parts and accessories, will display a TS-1X test study model based on the CR-Z.

Also on display are accessorized production automobiles and motorcycles, along with a variety of specially designed vehicles to show the playful nature of customization, such as the Freed Spike caravan car, the Acty Truck and the Enepo generator special coloring editions.

Racing vehicles on display will include the HSV-010 GT machine, which won both the driver and team titles for the Super GT Series GT500-class races, and the RC212V, which competed in the MotoGP class races, the pinnacle of world motorcycle road racing competition.

Detroit debut: 2012 Honda Civic Concept

Honda will unveil the next-generation Civic at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in January. For now, the automaker is teasing the ninth-generation 2012 Civic with the illustration, above, with more details to be revealed next month.

The car’s design retains the current short rear-overhang hatchback shape. The front of the car is changed completely though incorporating a much more aggressive all-new grille and front fascia layout, similar to the current Type R sports version. There’s also a fresh front bumper bearing a wider grin and larger air intakes.

Sleekly aerodynamic, the sketch released by Honda appears to show the design of the 2012 Civic Coupe. That’s traditionally been the maker’s sportiest entry in the compact segment. Whether Honda will take a similarly aggressive approach with the 2012 Civic Sedan remains to be seen.

2012 Honda Civic Concept to Make World Debut at North American International Auto Show

The styling direction of the next-generation Honda Civic will debut at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in January, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today.

The company released a sketch of the Civic Concept that conveys the sleek and aerodynamic profile of the show vehicle. The production version of the ninth-generation 2012 Civic based on the revealed concept will go on-sale in spring 2011. John Mendel, American Honda executive vice president of sales, will introduce the concept vehicle at a press conference, which will also be broadcast live via webcast on www.hondanews.com/live2011naias.

2011 Honda Insight UK Price

Honda has announced an enhanced Insight line-up for the UK market, boasting new top-of-the-range model and long list of chassis and suspension improvements. The price tags for the 2011 Honda Insight starts at 16,325 GBP for the SE model, but via Honda’s current Affordable Driving consumer offer, the hybrid is offered at just 14,995 OTR until the end of December.

A new, top-of-the-range, EX model, featuring black leather upholstery and DVD Sat Nav and hands-free telephone, is another addition to the 5-door hybrid line-up.
A number of chassis changes have been implemented, including: adjusting the recoil rate of the springs, changing the rear camber angles, altering the V-shape rear suspension brace and adjusting mounts. The amendments promise to deliver improved ride, handling and stability.

Standard features of the car on the base model include remote entry and has exclusive content compared to the other models consisting of unique seating fabric and a basic audio system with CD player and two speakers. The Insight LX gains features for 2011, adding cruise control, a USB audio interface, center armrest storage console and floor mats. The Insight EX adds to the LX features with steering wheel-mounted audio controls (previously exclusive to the Insight EX when equipped with navigation.

The changes made to the Insight were in direct response to the comments received from early customers and the media. The initial focus was on suspension, to which improvements have been made to address negative feedback on ride and comfort levels.

There are also two new paint options for Insight customers, with the introduction of Dynamic Blue Pearl and Carnelian Red Pearl.

Prices start at £16,325 for the SE model, but with Honda’s current Affordable Driving consumer offer, the hybrid is available at £14,995 OTR until the end of December. The highly-spec’d EX model with leather upholstery starts at £20,215 OTR.

Paris Preview：Honda Jazz Hybrid

The Japanese carmaker has releases the Honda Jazz Hybrid, which will debut at the 2010 Paris Auto Show this week.

Honda claims a combined fuel consumption figure of just 4.4 liter per 100km. As the hybrid system works on a simpler motor assist concept as compared to Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive, the Jazz Hybrid like the rest of its H-badged hybrid cousins will not be able to run on full EV mode on demand, instead it can only switch to an electric motor only mode under certain medium to low speed conditions.

The Honda Jazz Hybrid is powered by the same 1.3 liter i-VTEC engine coupled with a CVT transmission. The electric engine of the Honda Jazz Hybrid is positioned between the two.

The Honda Jazz Hybrid uses the same IMA hybrid motor and control system found in the Insight and CR-Z models. The battery pack and control unit, which are located under the boot floor enable a reasonable boot space capacity for a hatch like this, meaning 831 liters.

Making its debut at the Paris Motor Show this week, the hybrid version of the Jazz features Honda's innovative petrol-electric IMA system and retains the practical characteristics found in the supermini, while lowering emissions and improving fuel economy.

The Jazz will feature the same 1.3 litre i-VTEC as the Insight hybrid and despite its taller body shape, the new car has similar CO2 emissions of 104 g/km – 21g/km less than the current lowest-emitting 1.2-litre petrol Jazz. As well as the environmental benefits, the cleaner emissions bring more affordable driving too: road tax exempt for the first year and just £20 a year after, the hybrid version of the Jazz will also be free from the London congestion charge.

"We think that a cleaner, more economical version of the Jazz will be a big hit with customers," said John Kingston, Government Affairs and Environment Manager, Honda. "The IMA hybrid technology is incredibly easy to use, owners don't need to worry about plugging anything in to charge. It's simply a case of filling up with petrol and driving on as normal."

Like the Insight and Civic Hybrid models, the hybrid version of the Jazz will be capable of running on the electric motor alone under some medium and low speed conditions and this contributes to a combined fuel consumption figure of 64.2 mpg – a 23 per cent improvement over the best-selling 1.4 ES model.

Honda has added this cleaner hybrid technology to the supermini while retaining the flexibility of its unique folding Magic Seats. The IMA battery pack and power control unit have been integrated in the area under the boot floor, keeping the normal boot area of 300 litres and allowing the Magic Seats to fold in the same manner as non-hybrid versions. This means that the seats still fold entirely flat to provide a surprising large boot space of 831 litres, or the seat bases can be folded to sit vertically to accommodate tall items within the car.

The Jazz with hybrid technology will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show and will go on sale in the UK in early 2011. Prices, homologated emissions levels and full specifications will be announced at a later date.

SEMA Debut: Wraptivo Honda CR-Z Type-F

Wraptivo is currently working on a design package that will feature a matte black and carbon black film that will wrap around the Honda CR-Z Type-F Concept getting prepared for the SEMA show in November.

Dubbed the Type-F concept, the car boasts a unique exterior with matte black and carbon fiber wraps. Other goodies include a Mugen bodykit, LED daytime running lights, and Volk Racing wheels with BF Goodrich tires.

Wraptivo has several upgrades planned for their Type-F CR-Z including a suspension package from Tein, a ECU tune by Hondata, Volk Racing wheels, flat black/carbon fiber vinyl wrap scheme, and HKS Supercharger. Yes, that’s right. Wraptivo, with the help of HKS are supercharging a hybrid. Also some more improvements will be seen in the interior, Alcantara trim will be available together with a new shift knob.

The vehicle will be wrapped with Wraptivo™ Matte Black and Carbon Black Film while small accents will be left in gloss black. The CR-Z will act as a canvas for Wraptivo to showcase its vehicle wrap options and give customizers a preview of how they can take advantage of this technology as a new way to protect their factory paint while also having the ability to easily change the look of their vehicle.

To increase performance we are looking to develop a supercharger system, suspension package, an ECU Tune, exhaust system, and other components with the help of our technology partners: Honda Accessories, Tein , HKS, BF Goodrich, Volk Racing, Hondata, and others to be confirmed at a later time. Interior enhancements will be subtle but functional. Recaro seats, a sport shift knob, and alcantara panels will be implemented to give the driver a sportier experience for fun filled excursions.

The completed Wraptivo™ Honda CR-Z Type-F will closely resemble the concept rendering created for us by automotive digital illustrator Jon Sibal (JonSibal.com) though as the Type-F Concept is still in the early stages of production the final version may differ from the illustration slightly.

The Wraptivo Type-F Concept will make its official debut at the 2010 SEMA Show in the American Honda exhibit while the Wraptivo designer car wraps by Meguiar’s product line will also be launched at the same global event. From there it is our intention to test all of our performance upgrades by entering the CR-Z Type-F in Source Interlink’s Super Lap Battle time trial event held the week after SEMA’s conclusion.

Paris Preview: New Honda Fit / Jazz Hybrid

The Japanese carmaker Honda will present the new Fit / Jazz Hybrid at the Paris motor Show.

The newest member of the Japanese firm's hybrid family employs the same 1.3-liter gasoline engine and a continuously-variable automatic transmission with an electric motor sandwiched between them as the Insight. We don't have output figures yet, but don't expect any significant differences over Honda's dedicated hybrid model.

On the styling front, the car features a new grille, revised bumpers, modified lighting units, and additional chrome trim. Inside, the cabin has a darker dashboard, blue instrument lighting, and optional leather upholstery.

It has not been stated whether or not the Fit/Jazz Hybrid will be bought to the North American market. However the European and Japanese sales have been scheduled to start in the first half of next year. Stay tuned to have more details around the Paris Motor Show.

HONDA JAZZ GETS HYBRID TECH

A hybrid version of Honda's much-loved Jazz will make its world debut at the Paris Motor Show in September, bringing lower emissions and improved fuel economy to the practical supermini.

The introduction of Honda's petrol-electric IMA system to the Jazz, makes the car the world's first B-segment hybrid.

Featuring the practicality and flexibility of the current Jazz, but with reduced CO2 emissions and improvements to fuel economy, the hybrid version will go on sale in the UK in early 2011.

The car will feature the same engine as the Insight hybrid; a 1.3-litre i-VTEC engine combined with a CVT gearbox, with an electric motor sandwiched between the two to create a parallel hybrid system. The hybrid Jazz - like the Insight and Civic Hybrid models - will be capable of running on the electric motor alone under some medium and low speed conditions.

Much of the Jazz's practicality is derived from its height, but despite being taller than the current Honda Insight, the hybrid version of Jazz manages to maintain fuel consumption and CO2 emissions on comparable levels.

Visually, this new, cleaner Jazz is distinguished from the current range by revised headlights with a blue surround, clear rear lights, new front grille, restyled bumpers and a chrome tailgate garnish. The new hybrid will also be available in a range of existing colours plus a bespoke Lime Green metallic.

Inside, the cabin is also given a fresh look, with darker single colour dashboard, which contrasts strongly with the blue lighting of the dials and dashboard instruments. The new hybrid is also available with leather trim, the first time this has been available on a Jazz model in Europe.

MPG and emissions data will be released at the Paris Motor Show in September.

Along with the new hybrid Jazz, Honda will display the 2011 model year Insight, CR-Z, Jazz, CR-V, Accord and Accord Tourer, as well as the sports touring motorcycle VFR1200F equipped with the V4 engine, and a stylish PCX scooter with low emission idle-stop 125cc engine.

Official: 2011 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite [Video]

The 2011 Honda Odyssey goes on sale this fall and will surely be at the top of minivan shoppers lists alongside the recently redesigned 2011 Toyota Sienna. Looking virtually identical to the Odyssey concept, which was unveiled at 2010 Chicago Auto Show, the van features a bold grille (similar to the one used on the Accord Crosstour), a distinctive "lightning-bolt" beltline, which increases third row visibility, and a roof-mounted spoiler. The top-of-the-line Odyssey Touring Elite boasts HID headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, 12.6-inch ventilated front disc brakes, power side mirrors (with integrated turn indicators), and a power tailgate.

Inside, Honda has made the most of the Odyssey's extra width, offering an additional inch of shoulder room in the front row. What's most interesting, though, are the three second-row seat configurations, including an all-new wide mode which allows the two side captains chairs to be pulled away from the center seat, meaning three child car seats can fit all across one row. Again, the Odyssey hasn't really done anything innovative with its interior packaging, but new features like a chilled cool box in the front center console, HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface) input, 16.2-inch widescreen entertainment system, 15 upholders and a trash bag holder (yep!) will make the cabin more attractive to consumers who need one heck of an all-around family hauler.

For now, all we know about the powertrain options is that the 2011 Odyssey will be offered at least with Honda's 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine, with the Japanese company estimating a fuel economy for this model of 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.
